I am unable, no matter what I do or try, to get puppy 4 to work with my wireless setup.

the setup is wep 128 bit ascii.

I have tried two different wireless cards (one usb zydas 1211 chip and one pcmcia card with a realtek chipset 8185)

I have tried these each on three laptops of varying age (P2 through to P4)and the usb on three desktops.

All work and set up fine with no WEP but as soon as wep is enabled, i get the 169.xxx ip adress.

I know I am using the right password. Everything works until I turn on wep and then I just can't connect to the web.

ethernet also works.

I've blacklisted the older zydas 1211 driver and used the latest downloaded from the forum. Still no joy. I've used the windows drivers with ndiswrapper, same result.

This is a real shame as I like puppy a lot due to the compact size and having just about everything you could need on a system.

Any suggestions? Older version of puppy maybe? Never alpha version maybe?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Try entering your ascii key with an initial s:
that is
s:YOUR_ASCII_WEP_KEY
It works for me using puppy 4.1alpha7
I hope that helps

Thanks I'll try that now. I am actually writing this from puppy 4 with wep off.

Would you be able to explain why this works and how you actually came across this as a solution?

thanks and I'll post back.
