No sound on RealPlayer |
|
Hi all
Just downloaded and installed RealPlayer dotpup and it will run fine but no sound at all although on Gxgine I get everything working fine including sound.
Tried installing RealPlayer off their official website and after unrpm'ing it it did install as well but no sound either.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks - cheers
Gonçal

Yes download the RealPlayer10GOLD.bin file
Then
- Ensure that the .bin file you downloaded is executable. You can make the .bin file executable by running the "chmod 755 RealPlayer10GOLD.bin" command from a terminal window.
Then
- Run the .bin file by typing "./RealPlayer10GOLD.bin". Follow the prompts provided to finish installing the player.
Then
make sure you install it to /usr/local/RealPlayer
Then
Copying RealPlayer files...configure system-wide symbolic links?
answer Y to that question
Then
enter the prefix for symbolic links [/usr]:
you should enter /usr
That it it, it will install the plug-ins and all. Now be sure to remove the file
gxineplugin.so from /usr/lib/mozilla-1.8b1.5/plugins/

RP Running fine but no sound |
|
Hi klhr
RP runs fine and it did install OK following the steps you suggested but when playing back a video clip there is no sound to be heard.
However playing the same clip on Gxgine has its soundtrack.
I am talking about RealPlayer formats so this is a mystery to me.
thanks cheers G

goncal,
I don't have any idea what could be causing your problem. I know the dotpup I made for realplayer worked because I used it to install realplayer on another computer, and it worked fine. I believe that Lobster installed from the dotpup that I made, and had no trouble either, so my guess is that it's something specific to your computer.

Hello
Thanks you are probably right though I do not know where to look for audio play / rec settings in Puppy. Suggestions will be much appreciated.

Launch it from the command line console and see if it writes out any errors when trying to play something.

No errors and no sound |
|
hi rarsa
Absolutely no errors at all plus no sound either. When I move the volume slide I can hear the system's background noise increasing and decreasing though, as if the system is really increasing and decreasing amp power but this amp is not receiving any audio data.

goncal, try going here: https://helixcommunity.org/ The Linux Real Player is really the Helix Player, so maybe they might have something on their site that would help you get it working.
