Hi technosaurus,

You can use this link to search the puppylinux.ca server

http://www.puppylinux.ca/Website/node/7

This will not only search my server but a future mirror which will be very fast.

Best,
Eric

new "testing" page for those withe decent connection speeds is at
http://www.openplatformeducation.org/pupweb.html

This will replace the original version if no major issues are reported

I have updated to the latest version with better? graphics and some updated links

- since there have been so many requests for search pages, I will be building a separate page with the search code for all of them embedded into the page - to include all previous requests and the generic searches. I will experiment with adding them to the page directly as well.

Hi technosaurus

good job

minor glitch:

app suites/google apps / zoho

hovering over google apps & zoho cause extra tail to appear on rhs

typo in favourites: 'beyound this line......' remove u

Can you add Fastmail?

Will you be adding earlier versions to the bottom box? i.e. 3.01 & 2 series?

Other than that I would get used to clicking the bottom row icon links to open new tab, but is this possible, instead of it replacing this window/using back button?

else - good stuff :D

WOW Tech! That's awesome! Now that one (linked above) can be bookmarked and used by me regardless the distro that I'm in!

Out of curiosity: Are you planning on leaving this at that link on a more or less permanent basis? Or are you just leaving it there on a test basis only? I ask because it would make a nice start page for my browsers. I've already done so for a couple in Puppy by running the page from a subdirectory, see? Yet this way I could across my 4 distros. Would be nice in case others would like doing so as well. :) I hope they will!

Either way Tech, this is just fabulous work on your behalf. It really is! You might want to let Lobster, or WhoDo, know that you're doing this as well and maybe they could supply a link to it from the Puppy website and from the Wiki? Just an idea anyway.

Amicalement/Cheers!

fastmail.fm added - I didn't get a url - hope this was the right one

typo corrected

fixed tag on Zoho apps

puppy 2 & 3 - this comes directly from one of the help pages included in Dingo (as does the program list)- if versions 2 & 3 have them as well then sure

Current work - ETA this weekend:

Presentation apps to menu and as icon...

Flowchart Icon...

RSS Reader Icon...

Embed additional search boxes (previously requested as links, but why click twice when once will do?)

ftp account

#27 Post by raffy »

I've PM's technosaurus about an FTP account. If he uses it, it will have the URL
http://pupweb.org/desktop

My suggestion:

The link to puplets (breeders) tries to add a puplet but gets an error. Maybe use this URL instead, and in that page, an "add your puplet" URL should be provided (technosaurus or another member can do this).

Gotcha - I moved around the icons so that the suites are on the left - It is a submenu for individual apps - it should now pop out to the right.

I also added several categories and finally figured out how to stretch the background.

That should get rid of the "tail" - must be a bulldog puppy

Plan to move to http://pupweb.org/desktop this weekend if all goes well.

Okie, now I'm a person with only a 50% functional brain here (true---that's not one of my more infamous jokes), and so I tend to get very easily confused. Sorry about that! I take it what you're saying then Techno is that the webpage itself, the one we could use as a homepage/jumping off page, will be at that new URL?

Again, I apologise for bugging you as I realise this drags you away from the more important items which need doing. :(

Thank you Kind Sir!---and still what marvelous work you've achieved here! Beautiful!! :D

Blindingly good resource, thanks

exactly - sorry for the confusion - i couldn't logon to the ftp server yet but as soon as I can it will be at that address - also, when it is fully updated, I will include a link to the latest downloadable .tgz (or .pet) version (using local images) in the favorites menu for those wishing to use it in their remaster.

Thanks for the resources- I'll add them to the Q

which brings up a side note - I keep adding apps, some of which I have never personally used, so if any of them provide no real added value or it starts to get too bloated let me know that as well

ftp

#32 Post by raffy »

As I understand it, the FTP's URL should be ftp.servage.net, login technosaurus, password (see my PM).

I have no FTP service here now, but should be able to test it this evening not later than GMT12:00.

its already posted - I didn't have ftp access till I got home either. Anyhow many thanks Raffy (PMed ya btw)

I'm currently working on search boxes from the sites everyone has suggested. I have them working - just trying to keep the look of a desktop instead of a web page.

Next step is to add sites from all of these lists of web apps while trying to stay under 10 per category - may need to split some categories or add some new ones so we don't get any more "tails" (I guess I've got it looking so much like a desktop people forget they have scroll bars)

Way back on the back burner is finding a decent looking background with a smaller file size to speed up the load times (any suggestions?)

Thanks to everyone for all of the suggestions - your input has allowed us to have the best web apps (or "rich internet applications") collection around as far as I can tell. Virtually every link on the web page came from another member of our community in some way, shape or form. I appreciate the patience everyone has had while I have done all of my tweaking and renaming etc... Thanks to Raffy, http://pupweb.org/desktop/ will be its new and hopefully permanent home and you won't have to suffer through testing some of my extremely bad ideas (only the really bad ones)

THANKS TECHNO!! :D

And that's not meant as the "net yelling" but as a real "Congrats" for a hard job so very well done and excellently crafted!

It's now in the top bookmark bar of my SeaMonkey/Firefox for that I can reach it with one click (from all my other distros) and in Puppy proper it'll be the homepage of my browsers there. Just such a fabulous wealth of material and apps!

Incredible! For once I'm speechless. Some here will realise how impossible that is. LOL!

Amicalement/Cheers!

Lobster - thanks for the reminder - I tried that one before when I was using white lettering and couldn't see the text in places - it should work now.

status update

#38 Post by technosaurus »

I just finished editing the mouseover descriptions to be a bit more concise - thought it might reduce the size more than it did
I also added the klu9, wellminded and google/linux search boxes
Moved Puppy programs to the bottom to make room for the search boxes

i am currently prepping new app sections
games - Yahoo Games...
todo - webeditors - google page creator etc..

favorites sections:
todo - library - gutenberg, wikibooks, internet archive, google books

added previously requested searches+

updated icons for the web version

and using these additional sites as a reference for more web apps

I've already found a bunch of search box codes including metacrawler, excite, ask jeeves, DMOZ... - the issue is getting them to look ok

I am trying to get all the different google searches to use one box and radio buttons and kind look like a widget using a table with a translucent background. This should make room for other searches on the top.

I like to do a bottom bar also, but the only way I know how is to use frames and that cuts off the dropdown menus. Maybe I'll stumble upon some nice code snippet soon for this.
