wxMusik - manage your Albums

#1 Post by MU »

screenshot:

Allows to manage your music in albums, also radiostations are supported.
Can play FLAC.

Homepage:
http://musik.berlios.de/

Info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WxMusik

Download (3 MB):
http://puppyfiles.org/dotpupsde/dotpups ... -0.4.2.pup

You also need some playlists. I made an extra-Dotpup, so you later can install newer version of wxMusic, but keep your old playlists.
http://puppyfiles.org/dotpupsde/dotpups ... ylists.pup

If it will not start from the Dotpups-menu, install this small library:
http://puppyfiles.org/dotpupsde/dotpups ... C.so.4.pup (90 kb)

------------------------------------------------------
developer-info:
This took hours :?
I compiled wxwidgets:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wxwi ... ror=switch

with these parameters:
./configure --disable-shared --prefix=/usr --enable-unicode --enable-accel --enable-gtk2 --enable-monolithic --with-libpng=builtin --with-zlib=builtin --with-libjpeg=builtin --with-regex=builtin --with-expat=builtin --with-libtiff=builtin

And cmake:
http://www.cmake.org/

Then fmod 375
http://www.fmod.org/files/fmodapi375linux.tar.gz

The wxMusik-source has detailed instructions on how to proceed.
The cmake-screen should look like this:

mkdir crelbuild
cd crelbuild
cmake -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE:STRING=RelWithDebInfo ..

Code: Select all

The "Mac" - libraries are available for Windows only, so I deactivated them.
The muse -libs I compiled, but did not know what to do with the resulting files, there were just binaries, no libraries. So I deactivated them, too.

Finally I upxed the binary.

Hi Mark,

I just installed this. I like it - it's great!

I'm not sure what happened but at first it wouldn't play any songs, even after I set up a music library. But then I installed your wxMusik-0.4.2-playlists.pup and now it's all OK.

Thanks for this. Another winner.

Hello, I installed wxMusic from the Puppy Package site as well as the FLAC library (I only found version 7 of it - the link to this older version of the library is not working) and I can't launch wxMusik. Any help? It keeps telling me that it can't find the libFLAC.so4

I updated the links in the first message, should work now.

Also have a look at xmmsMusicBox written especially for Puppy:

Thank You very much MU - wxMusik is working flawlessly.
I've tried xmms music box already - it's ok, but wx is more suitable to my needs.

MU, trying to understand the widgets you compiled... downloaded the tar file, unzipped it, and am trying to work out what you mean. You configured this for...? Is it to have widgets with wxMusik? Can you add wxMusik to these widgets? Do I follow the compile instructions in the tar package, or yours from the post... happy to give it a go, unsure what to do, and also, what you did it for. Can you please explain a little more? Thanks!

I understand now, and feel slightly dumb... :?
Realized wxWidgets was the program you needed to compile wxMusik... am just realizing how much work you must have put into that...lol. Thanks. Am using it as a default music player for TigerPup, it's a great program.

Hi MU,

Been happily using wxMusik, these last few months. I noticed on wxMusik's homepage they said it was capable of playing wmas. Is there a way I can enable this in Puppy? Thanks!

Edit: Sorry my mistake. WMA is only supported in the windows version. Pity. I don't suppose there is a way to enable it is there?

Just installed it.
Streaming seems to work.
I defined a library and select it.
I expect then that a search is made to import to the library, but nothing happens whether I choose update or rebuild.
Am I doing something wrong?

When I first saw wxGTK Library awhile back, I thought it was too big, Now that I've seen it in, Multiget, wxMusik, VLC I'm almost swayed to think it should be a default Library in puppy, If it was, Things like the last VLC I made up could be the default media player, Multiget could be the default file downloader. WxMusik could be the multimedia player. Total package size around 13MB for all 3 applications, then minus Xine-libs, Gxine maybe 8mb extra maybe less if I can get your wxgtk to work on my VLC, haven't tried your version yet, just the one I compiled up. Which was over 5MB pet package.I know I'll be using them :)
Well thanks for the package. :D

Well yes, I misunderstood the panel.
The directory to fill in is not the directory where the library should store the info, but it's the directory, where a search for music files is started.
I got my music files registered in the library now.
Don't know where the library in fact is, but I suppose in /root/.wxMusik.
So I am happy now.

I defined a new stream, which is an .asx one.
It doesn't play.
Can wxMUSIK handle .asx streams?

Hi MU, am rebuilding Puppy 4 from unleashed, and want to include wxMusik.. it's one of the best musik players I've found. Unfortunately I haven't got past needing a pet file to do it... Ran the pup2pet script, and all I got was a pet file with the pup file packaged inside. Unsure if this is the defualt, but if it is this doesn't do much in unleashed, probably because the dotpuphandler package is installed into the build once it's made.

So question one: how can I extract files within a pup file, and repackage them into a pet file? Question two: are you able to provide a pet file for wxMusik? Cheers.

hey dinky

When ever you install a pup file it makes a temp folder in
/root/DotPupTmpDir
what you do is extract the
/root/DotPupTmpDir/FILESYSTEM.tgz
and make that tgz into a pet, sometimes you have to move stuff around, but most times its straight forward.
ok this the steps in doing do

-install the dotpup handler
-click a pup file, it will say "File integrity is OK: wxMusik-0."
-click the unzip and now go to /root/DotPupTmpDir
-now extract the /root/DotPupTmpDir/FILESYSTEM.tgz and wxMusik-0.4.2.tgz and make a pet
Only sometimes does the main file like wxMusik-0.4.2.tgz have information also. so you need to extract and configure this one also

hope that helps, If you can't figure it out, I can convert the pups for you.:)
