Re: Brasero 0.7.1 (for Gnome-2.20.3)
hi just wondering why its compiled as i686? Thats for newer pc like ours I guess, but 80% +/- puppy users use i386, i486, i586wow wrote:http://www.gnome.org/projects/brasero/ wrote:Introduction

When I share files that I compile usually I use
./configure --prefix=/usr --build=i386-linux
So its more widely used. If you go to the ubuntu repo for QT4 intrepid Gnome packages they are either i386 or 64bit 2 formats to choose from. I'm not trying to complain, well I hope I'm not coming across as such I think this program is great thats all. Plus my next living water will have some Gnome programs, Not from mu's sfs but from what I've compiled, So finding extra applications that might work on it would be nice. Thanks for your time.

Well, my options are i686 or amd64, so I choosed i686(an Intel Pentium PRO at least) 'cause I consider it old enought.ttuuxxx wrote:hi just wondering why its compiled as i686?

Running The GNOME Desktop(2.20.3) could be a painful work with a i486 based PC.ttuuxxx wrote: but 80% +/- puppy users use i386, i486, i586

looks like its missing an icon and dbus, you can find the dbus package on the forum and the icon you can find at gnome, should be easy enough. If your having problems locating it the just give me a line.

thanks for the quick response. I found DBus-1.0.2.pet and DBus-GLib-0.74.pet and they were both already installed but i installed them both again but no luck I'm still getting the same error in the console. I have K3B installed and working fine, do you think that maybe
there could be some kind of conflict between the two?
On my Dreamlinux partition they both work fine (not that I'm comparing puppy to dream) with nobody else having this problem, I know there's probably a simple solution.....

in a terminal type the following
dbus-uuidgen
then go to /usr/var/lib/dbus
make a text file called
machine-id
and copy the numbers from the terminal to the text file and save it.
ttuuxxx
ps the end result you should have a file in
/usr/var/lib/dbus/
called machine-id.txt
with the only the dbus-uuidgen numbers in it, On the firstline and no spaces

it's funny, right before i read your post i entered the dbus-uuidgen and didn't know what the numbers meant. anyway i did that but i wasn't sure if the machine-id was suppose to have a .txt extension or not so i tried it both ways and still no success. also i noticed that every time i do the dbus-uuidgen that the numbers are different....

Easy: use a new pup_save fileluck_gh0st wrote:hey wow, i installed the gnome.sfs and then the brasero.pet but for some reason brasero doesn't seem to recognized my cd drive. device is just grayed out.

Boot Puppy-4.00 (use 4.00 to avoid problems wit udev) with pfix=ram and do the gnome.sfs's preinstall stuff (haldaemon user and group), save session to a new pup_save file, reboot the computer and load gnome.sfs with bootmanager, install brasero.pet.
Hard: restoring your current installation (frugal)
- Make sure that gnome.sfs is loaded with bootmanager
- Run petget and uninstall every dbus*, hal*, udev* packages
- Run this command
Code: Select all
find /initrd/pup_r* -name .wh.* -delete -print
- Boot puppy with pfix=ram and check your pup_save file with fsck and reboot without saving session. Example:
Code: Select all
fsck -fa /mnt/sda5/pup_save.2fs
killall udevd
/etc/init.rd/rc.hald stop
/etc/init.rd/rc.dbus stop
/etc/init.rd/rc.dbus start
/etc/init.rd/rc.hald start
/etc/init.rd/rc.udev start
- Restart X
- Try to start brasero now. if it works open /etc/rc.d/rc.local with a text editor and add these lines:
Code: Select all
killall udevd
/etc/init.rd/rc.udev start
Good luck.

Thank you wow for your reply. I failed to mention that I'm running 412 from a full hd install. I kinda figured that udev was the culprit here, a few years ago i installed slackware ( i think it was 12 maybe) and I couldn't getthe OS to see any pendrives that i put in. udev confuses me. it's over my head. I'm going to pm you because I have another off topic question.
