medusa4 CAD software

#1 Post by bambuko »

I hope that I am starting this topic in correct section

One of the reasons I still run both Puppy and XP is professional CAD that I need.

It would seem that I have found something that I can try:
http://www.cad-schroer.com/index.php?sc ... A&land=com
Apart from being a decent CAD system, it offers free personal license (renewable every 6 month)

It is supposedly good for CentOS, Fedora, Red Hat, SuSE and Ubuntu, so I have decided to try in Puppy 4.0 (full install on my desktop)

And now to the reason for this post:
Downloaded .sh file
Started installation and got the error message:

Code: Select all

medusa4_v3_0_1_linux_personal.sh: line 38: csh: command not found
Searched Medusa support forum and found the following advice (to somebody else with identical problem):
...you need to install the "C shell", or "csh". The Medusa installation and other scripts wrongly invoke the Bourne shell ("sh"), which has a different syntax...
but than it follows with something about finding rpm in Fedora...

Can you please help in translating this into "Puppy talk"

thanks Chris

Mu has csh available here. Just extract & copy bsd-csh to /usr/bin. I think it would need renaming, from /usr/bin/bsd-csh to /usr/bin/csh, as well.

But if you see this thread, installing Medusa on puppy doesn't sound promising.

thanks muggins,
that doesn't sound very promising indeed
(btw I wish people used more descriptive titles to their postings ... "I'm trying to install a big program " doesn't help much  )

I will still try though before I give up

Chris,

I don't know what your requirements are, but if you search sourceforge.net for cad, there are a few opensource java-based cad programs.

Have come across this one before.
First impressions - very good when it comes to modeling, but lacks in the drafting department (3d models are of little use, unless I can produce drawings from them)

the only two that appear to come close to my requirements were:
http://www.varicad.com/en/home/
and
http://www.cad-schroer.com/index.php?sc ... A&land=com

the rest of it is either beyond my means or too basic...
and of course the main requirement is that it would have to "just work" :P
I don't want to "tinker" with them I just want to use them

your advice about csh (including renaming) worked OK :!:
but now it complains about missing library:

Code: Select all

med/run/csginst: error while loading shared libraries: libGLU.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
this is probably not unusual - installation manual lists various libraries needed for all the distros for the installation to succeed, so I would be surprised if Puppy was different, it's just that the manual hasn't got ready answers for Puppy.

Hope you can help me with this one as well
in the meantime searching:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 69519147c3
let's hope I can make sense of it
ps later edit:
I have only found LibGL.so1 and LibGL.so.1.2. in /usr/X11R7/lib :?:

thanks

That's from openGL. You could try installing the pup3 openGL .pet from here

no sooner said than done :)
however... the message from package manager says:
these dependencies are missing:
File /usr/X11R7/lib/libglut.so.3.7.1 has these missing library files:
libGLU.so.1
The Petget package manager does not know what package has these libraries
so it would appear that search for libGLU.so.1 continues...

btw since it didn't work, I suppose I might as well remove openGL ?

thanks Chris

OK, I just downloaded the same package, and Barry has a message in it:
I moved libGLU.so* to the xorg_BASIC
But I've no idea whether it's in this one, or this.

downloaded both and tried installing
PETget shows message:
processing, please wait
and afterwards nothing...
I don't know if I should be more patient? but normally it doesn't take long, so I am inclined to think there is some problem with these PETs?
I will now try one and walk away :) and see what happens

Try converting the .pet to .tgz, by renaming, extract to a temporary location then, if it contains libGLU.so, copy to proper location. The library is also available on http://puppylinux.ca/ttuuxxx/Libs/.

Just download libGLU.so.1.3.070001 to /usr/X11R7/lib, and then symlink it to libGLU.so.1.

thanks, that might be useful in future

downloading done
when it comes to symlink I am on a slightly more dodgy ground  (still a desperate newb)
did a bit of search and it would appear that I am supposed to :?: :

Code: Select all

ln -s libGLU.so.1 /usr/X11R7/lib/libGLU.so.1.3.070001
I would appreciate your help to make sure I don't muck it up :(

thanks Chris

It would be:

Code: Select all

ln -s /usr/X11R7/lib/libGLU.so.1.3.070001 /usr/X11R7/lib/libGLU.so.1
But you can also achieve the same result by right-clicking libGLU.so.1.3.070001 & selecting Link, then entering /usr/X11R7/lib/libGLU.so.1.
