Seamonkey 1.0.8 not up to latest YT interface

#1 Post by nubc »

Recently, YouTube improved its channel interface, in particular, the Edit mode for Playlists. Although IE6 and Firefox show this particular script, Seamonkey 1.0.8 (Puppy 2.17.1) does not show a very important button. When I use Seamonkey to 'Edit Playlists' there is no "New" button for creating a new playlist. Normally, when this blue-colored button is clicked, there is a dropdown menu with two options: Playlist and Video Upload. Short of installing Firefox, can someone suggest an add-on or component that is available to make Seamonkey 1.0.8 capable of this functionality.

EDIT: I just ran Puppy 4.0 as liveCD, and Seamonkey 1.1.8 does show the "New" button. I found a dotpup for Seamonkey 1.1.8, but I see a possible complication that upgrading to 1.1.8 will break gxine. Opinions? Suggestions?

I tried to install seamonkey-1.1.8.pet and it didn't seem to take, couldn't find it anywhere [in the Menu tree]. So I tried Wolf Pup's seamonkey-1.1.11.pet and this worked as far as I can tell. Flash music videos play well, so no problem there. Gxine works okay. I wonder, is there a way to reduce the browser's font size? I might want to change that.

EDIT: One issue is that Seamonkey closes of its own accord frequently. I have been using Seamonkey 1.1.11 about a hour now, and it has closed by itself maybe 5 times. The last instance was submitting this reply. When I clicked the "Submit" button, there was a flash, then the browser closed, and I was obliged restart Seamonkey to log in to the forum again. Definitely an annoyance.

Looks like I will need some help on this: I can't "sign in" to YouTube. When I click "Sign In," the browser closes. This "Sign In" dialog is an entire new page/window. I deselected "Block unrequested pop-up windows." No joy. Tabbed Browsing setting?

If there are multiple instances of Seamonkey 1.1.11 running, clicking on "Sign In" will close all instances of Seamonkey.

Clicking on any navigational link (leading to another page) on YT's front page will cause the browser to close.

At this point, I am committed to Seamonkey 1.1.11. Thanks for the link, may use on another occasion, if version 1.1.11 proves to be too troublesome. I wonder what would happen if I installed 1.1.8 over the latest 1.1.11. Probably all the settings would be transferred, including the problem with clicking links on YT.

In retrospect, I probably should have kept Seamonkey 1.0.8 and waited for YT to fix its bugs. It seems that Seamonkey 1.1.11 has larger problems, like not being able to click links on YT. Here is a similar issue with Google Earth that involves paths and renaming the Seamonkey executable:
http://www.knowprose.com/node/18947
I have the same issue. After some investigation, I found this is becuase Google Earth (or possibly MSHTML.DLL ?) attempts to run SEAMON~1.EXE, with no path, so goes looking for it in C:\WINDOWS, and finds SeamonkeyUninstall.exe, which in 8.3 name format is of course SEAMON~1.EXE, so it runs it.

Why it is doing this, when previous versions did not, is not yet clear, but at least this is something to go on.

Workaround to prevent seamonkey being closed every time you click on a link is to rename seamonkey to something that does not match SEAMON~1.EXE, eg put a "1" in front of it or something - "1 seamonkeyuninstall.exe" works nicely.

This does not make links works, but at least it stops all your seamonkey windows being closed.
From the above, I need to know where YT will look for the Seamonkey executable, and incorrectly find the Seamonkey-uninstall executable instead.

In review, I have downloaded and installed Seamonkey 1.1.8 twice from two different sources, and although there were Menu entries in the Internet section, the web browser would not open. Maybe this suggests problems with paths. It seems the only version of Seamonkey that will open is version 1.1.11, but this version has an issue with YT, that is, the browser will close when a link is clicked.

I would just as soon use SM 1.1.8 if I could establish the proper path for opening it.
