Puppy 1.0.6rc uploaded
I thought I would kill two birds with one stone and test Puppy-1.0.6rc and the new WakeUSB boot utility (NOT WakePup) at the same time.
The hardware:
- old (from 2000) Thinkpad 240X (one unbootable USB 1.1 port, no CD-ROM)
- an external Thinkpad floppy drive
- a Sandisk SD Card-to-USB2.0 MobileMate SD+ adapter
- a 256M SD card
Here's what I did:
- Extracted these files from puppy-1.0.6rc.iso using isobuster
image.gz
isolinux.cfg
usr_cram.fs
vmlinuz
- Copied them to the SD card plugged into the Sandisk adapter
- Added marker file pupxusb
- Plugged adapter with card into the Thinkpad's USB 1.1 port
- Booted WakeUSB with the floppy drive, accepted the default options in WakeUSB and...
voila, there's Puppy 1.0.6rc with the seagull...
Now to test Puppy 1.0.6rc

Providing you have a flash device recognized by its USB driver, WakeUSB will offer what it thinks are the proper boot options. If you want to change an option, just use the built-in editor menu, accept the changes and boot up Puppy from the flash drive. Great for experimenting...
('pupxusb' is an empty marker file that you put on the flash drive so that WakeUSB will know that it is the right drive to boot from.)
Note that WakeUSB comes as both an image for floppy and an iso for CD.
BTW, one of the differences between WakePup and WakeUSB is that the latter is compatible with Barry's 'Make Puppy USB' wizard, providing you just add the pupxusb file as mentioned above.
When you boot with WakeUSB, after a little wait (especiallly if the PC's port is USB 1.1), a pup100 file will be created on the flash drive. Before you know it you're running Puppy from cutting-edge flash memory on that old PC you thought was useless...
