I wanted to buy a USB-to-Serial adapter because I need a few more Serial ports on my computer, however, drivers are available only for Redhat or Suse Linux for the 2.4 kernel and for FC2 or Suse 9.1 for the 2.6 kernel. Would any of these drivers work if I used it on Puppy 1.0.5 or do I have to have a special driver?

You could try the 2.4 kernel drivers as Puppy 1.0.5 is using a 2.4 kernel.

There are PCI cards that will add 1-4 extra ports.

Doesn't the PCI card need a driver? And isn't there any way to be sure whether the Redhat or Suse drivers will work or not?

No you can't use the RedHat\Suse ones.


The archive of modules should have the drivers, most usb serial adapters use the same chipset.

Be warned unless you are using a 2.6 kernel and udev you cant for certain be sure which physical adapter will be which device

The thing is that it says on the company's website that advanced users can adapt the driver to distributions other than Redhat and Suse, so I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to do that
