webserver puppy

#1 Post by pprevoo »

Looking for a puppy webserver with php support.
Is there a puppy with lighttpd incl. php and sql support?
I tried to install lighttpd and php in dingo but I can't get it to run.
Would like to migrate my server from xp to puppy.
What Puppy Derivative can I use to do this?

Have you seen this thread started by nibl? You can PM him for the new download location if the links do not work anymore.

it is perfectly do-able.
I've had both apache and xampp running straightforwardly under Puppy 3.01, and although I haven't tried them under Dingo, I expect all should be fine.
Puppy is after all basically a desktop Linux, so as it stands it may not be robust or able to be hardened enough for an outward-facing server; but there's no reason not to try to develop a PupServer ... it'd be an interesting and rewarding project

I tried xammp on Dingo.
I got troubles with permissions.
You do'n't have permission to view this page.
chmod 777 or any other number didn't solve it.
Then I tried lighttpd but couldn't get it to work with php.
I would love to see Dingo working with lighttpd, php, mysql and phpmyadmin.
That would be the best solution I think.
Lighttpd is smaller and faster than xammp.
I us xammp for over 3 years now.
Even used it with Damn small linux. But lighttpd is the better canidate for puppy. Now if only someone could implement it with Dingo.
I would be a happy men. Xammp just feels to big for a puppy.
If you try xammp on dingo and get the htdocs folder /subfolder permissions problem fixed let me know. I'm verry interested in that selution.
I have to youse xammp if I can't get lighttpd to work. :)

growler

Growler has a neat sfs for you if you use 3.01.

Also, the Xampp access error you mentioned results from double write permission, example, it your folder is already chmod 777, your index file in that folder should not be chmod 666.

Or, another way to handle it is this: if your server runs as user nobody (see httpd.conf), then folders can be kept at chmod 755 and files at chmod 644 and things should work.

xammp is slow, to big and gives me to much troubles.
setup lighttpd incl. mysql? I tried for 3 days. Can't get it to work.
guess I'll have to wait for someone to make a webserver dingo with lighttpd mysql and phpmyadmin.
And that is working without config all kinds of stuff.
Dingo is the best puppy I think but I need lighttpd.
Don't want to use an older puppy.
I'm not a linux expert and never will be.
I just want to be able to do my thing witch is building websites and put them on my server.
Back to Windows for now. this sucks!

I haven't tested this yet, but it looks like this post from 2006 had something with lighttpd on it.

It is a dotpup, but you could try installing the dotpup installer for puppy 4.

I'm gonna try this tomorrow, as I'm looking for the exact same thing, a puppy that I can do my web design on!

Don't want to use an older puppy.
I'm not a linux expert and never will be.
You placed restrictions in what you can do and then when frustrated, you let out "s****s".

New Puppies are cutting edge and therefore have their own developer-related problems, so older Puppies are generally more ready for users. If you don't accept this, there should be no reason for cursing.

Please show respect to people here who sincerely try to help you.
