How do I run stuff I download?

This version will just overwrite the previous one. I think the package manager should give you a warning that it's already installed though.

I know we deviated from your question, with the gpredict diversion, but you never answered my question as to whether the file st-v097d_linux-base.tar.bz2 contained skulltag.pk3?

Until your post I'd never heard of skulltag! Anyway, I downloaded the linux-base.tar.bz2, (despite measly dialup), extracted it to the same folder as skulltag, so it now contains:

skulltag, skulltag.pk3, skulltag-server & skulltag.wad.

I'd previously, (as mentioned before), downloaded libfmod, and extracted to /usr/lib. Now if I run ./skulltag I get:

Cannot find a game IWAD (doom.wad, doom2.wad, heretic.wad, etc.).
Did you install Skulltag properly? You can do either of the following:

1. Place one or more of these wads in the same directory as Skulltag.
2. Edit your skulltag-username.ini and add the directories of your iwads
to the list beneath [IWADSearch.Directories]

Googling I see there are similar problems mentioned on ubuntu forums. Surely someone in the skulltag world can take you further?

i'll explain it. its extremely simple to install.
1. download the appropriate packages from the st site.
2. extract them wherever you want. (i put them in ~/skulltag cuz thats easiest).
3. put the doom/hexen/whatever wads in the same folder.
4. run skulltag.

But I'm not going to download any doom/hexen/whatever wads to test this further. You'll have to take this last step.
