Ok, I will try and compile latest wxWidgets and latest CVS aMule. I was not able to find the option to disable root warning, tough. If someone knows, please, tell me ;-).

Ok guys,

thanks for the tips.

Here you can download wxGtk 2.8.6, aMule CVS Snapshot and libbfd-2.17.50.0.17.20070615.so .

http://www.giovelug.org/index.php?lng=e ... indice&c=5

Follows some notes:

1. I compiled aMule without root warning
2. At fist start up aMule will warn you it is a cvs snapshot so it could give some problem
3. The library above needs to stay in /usr/lib . I don't know about it and why it is out of the packaging. I had it on my build system but not on my test Puppy 3.01 system, so I just copied it and aMule started with no problem
4. I called it aMule cvs 2.2.0 even if it is not released yet with that versioning.

Re: aMule 2.1.3 and wxGTK 2.6.3 alien packages ready

Hello to all.
First I have to say I'm a real newbie, but my will is tough and I've searched a lot to solve my problem to avoid a reply here.
No info found on how to install Amule from a tar.gz file.

I'm running Puppy 3.01 from USB dongle, on a Thin Client (HP T5000)
I've managed to run the vncserver and accessing my NAS, but I'm trying without success to find a way to install tar.gz software.

Looking into the manual of 3.01 there's no explanation (instructions are only for PET files and .deb, using pd-debianinstaller)
I tried to use the infos in the link you gave in the first post ( http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/Com ... stallation )

but there's a little problem...
make install has no effects ("bash: make command not found")
make as above
../install the same
./configure does not exist

PetGet can only manage PET files or PUP files.
Puppy Software installer is a mere browser (a good one) and simply unpacks the compressed files in a folder, without installing it..

so this is one of the most common packet extension and there's no way to install a tar.gz ?!

It seems that in the old versions of Puppy you had the chance to install tar.gz's from PupGet or PetGet, now the button for unofficial installation packets has been removed.

I know the for "professionals" this installation was done in 1 minute, but I have no idea on where/how get this Amule installed (and I didn't say "working :(

Thanks in advance if someone may help me.

ivanover,

The clue is the term alien package, and yes, you would have probably have needed to have been around on the forum for awhile to be across this.

To install an alien package, you do:

1) Start->Setup->Puppy package manager
2) Click "Click button to run the PETget package manager"
3) Click "Or, if you have downloaded a PET...official/unofficial...."
4) Change directory to package's location, select & Click OK.

And, hopefully, it installs OK, and runs seamlessly.

Thanks for your answer muggins.
I've put the same tar.gz file in two locations, one folder is located in the NAS and accessed with Samba, the other in a local folder, my-applications.
files in Samba folder are visible and you can manage them.

Trying to install with Puppy package manager, using the tar.gz located in the Samba folder, shows up this "TRY AGAIN, you must choose a PET file with .pet extension"

If I browse to "my-application" folder, installation seems to start but I get the infamous "not enough room to uncompress file".

My 2fs file has 300 free Mb.

I could use some time trying to solve the "not enough room" issue, if actually I can install tar.gz's :?

Puppy is almost complete, Amule in the only alien software that I need..

Thank again, cheers

If you just click on the packages, can you extract them using Pupzip,
( Xarchive)? If you can, then, in the extracted directory, if you right click the packages /usr directory, & choose Copy..., then copy this to /, everything should install to it's proper place.

Then if you run fixmenus in a console, & restart jwm, this should resolve any menu issues. (at least, without downloading anything & doing it myself, it works in theory for me!).

And again, many thanks Mr Muggins.

I should run away ashamed for not having checked properly this post.

The fact is Slapshot, who has started the thread and compiled the older release of Amule, told us where to get a brand new version of Amule in this link:

http://www.giovelug.org/index.php?lng=e ... indice&c=5

and finally it comes with a PET extension.

BUT, since I am a newbie as I already told you, your information has been pretty useful, I've just had a little discussion with a friend of mine and he explained me why put everything in / directory and son on.

Thanks for your help, you'll have a beer paid when I'll find wollogong on the map..
Oh, a beer for slapshot too!

Hi,

I've installed the packages on Puppy 3.01, and if I run amule, it says that libwx_gtk2u_adv-2.6.so.0 is missing. Where can I get it?

it could be:

http://www.giovelug.org/index.php?lng=e ... &c=5&pag=2

It's page 2 of the same link posted before.
But they're not the same libraries asked by your installation.

Probably you should install the Amule 2.2 CSV snapshot versione from the link, at page 1, then put the libraries where the system wants them.

cheers

Thanks ivanover. I've deinstalled the previous packages, and installed wxGTK 2.8.6 and aMule CVS 2.2.0, plus libbfd-2.17.50.0.17.20070615.so
, and now amule seems to work.

amule/amuleweb

#37 Post by elduendeoscuro »

Hi, I'm new to puppy, but I had instaled amule without problems, thanks to your detailed instructions.

But I have a problem, amule works ok, but I want to start the web server (I want to connect in remote), and don't work.

I'm not sure where is the problem, but If you write amuleweb in the command line the result is: amuleweb don't found.

And, in the page of amule, I found this:
aMuleWeb is not compiled separately; it is compiled at the same time you compile aMule by using the --enable-amuleweb flag when you run configure.

Then I have a question:
is posible that the problem can be resolved recompiling amule?

thanks in advance
