Gslapt 3 Series Slackware + dir2sfs + undeb + unrpm

#1 Post by ttuuxxx »

***UPDATED***
Well I was talking to Mu about how complicated building a sfs was compared to a pet package and basically 5 minutes late Mu made one, What a nice guy he is, How handy. To use this new tool just follow these directions
place all your directories in a folder, for this example we call the folder test
open a terminal via right click mouse "terminal here"
type dir2sfs test <---press enter key
and now you have your sfs file :)
Thanks again Mu thats a excellent tool to have :)

Well I hope this is ok with Barry, I managed to get Gslapt working with Dingo 4.0 it took a bit of work, The first time I tried it was a over 16MB lol now I have it under 1MB :)
So basically its the same as before you get
-Gslapt
-Unrpm
-Undeb
-Slapt-Get
Plus new script dir2sfs
all-in-One package under 1MB
Hope you enjoy it, I've managed to install VLC the strange version and Vim with it so far, Basically dingo users, if you use this you might be installing gtk1 apps and everything else to run them. But you can look at it this way, you only have to install the extras once:)
Enjoy
ttuuxxx

@@@ Update @@@
amigo suggest to also install this
http://www.smokey01.com/ttuuxxx/3-Serie ... arch-3.pet
It gives you better compatibility with Slackware, I've used Gslapt a lot in the past without it, but this pet package comes will a lot of command line tools for extracting, compiling/building Slackware packages, Its also specially patched for puppy :)
hope you enjoy it

Puppy4 already has 'undeb'. It is part of the 'dpkg-deb' package.

'unrpm' could just be a script that runs the busybox 'rpm2cpio' applet.

Yes puppy4 for has undeb, But this Gslapt is for 3&4 and 3 didn't have it. So I included it, Its just handy to have :)
and yes unrpm runs
#!/bin/sh
exec rpm2cpio "$@" | cpio -i -d
But once again is very handy in series 3&4 and makes a great little addon for a package under 1MB :)

I just put them both in as handy fillers.

Oh before I forget Barry
I uploaded this 70kb Game called xsoldier-1.4
Most people really like it and I was wondering if you could include it in your next official puppy release?

Just updated again with a new feature to dir2sfs
It now adds the version-number to the filename.

If you have the folder /test
Before:
test.sfs
New:
test_301.sfs

You can override it, by adding a number to the foldername.

If you have the folder /test_999
then test_999.sfs will be created, regardless the real version of your system.
So you can build versions for different target-systems.

this gslapt version is only for Puppy 4?
if yes it's a way to backporting in puppy 3.01 dir2sfs command? it's very useful in my humble opinion
replace .co.cc with .info to get access to stuff I posted in forum
dropbox 2GB free
OpenOffice for Puppy Linux

Well it worked (installed gslapt) but also changed my desktop so I have no taskbar and a weird orange/grey theme appeared which I have never seen before.

Hope others are more successful? (seems that way from previous posts)
Well done :? I think . . .

Ummm lobster what is going on with your system? It runs fine on a fresh dingo, The red you see is a corrupts window manager, I presume JWM usually the thats what a red window like you have usually indicates, Try my fix and see how you go.

It may be trying to achieve sentience . . .
or just trying to enter the twilight zone . . .

Something I am aiming for . . . 8)

I have already booted to a newer desktop (the old system was ready for closure anyways . . .) and deleted the old savesfs (so sadly can not check your pet - but it may be useful for others)

Gslapt now working. Many thanks :)

Hi ttuuxxx, just installed this package in puppy 3.01... not sure if you intended that or not. Gslapt seemed to work fine, though the dir2sfs script wasn't included... if it was it wasn't functional. Followed the link you posted for Barry about MU's script, and installed that under /usr/local/bin, works great. Just thought you should know. CHeers.

hi dinky
thanks for the response
I just checked it and it is there
have a look at
/root/my-applications/bin/dir2sfs
and report back if you can, it worked for me also like 76 people have downloaded since I changed it and not a complaint yet? I don't know whats going on.
