Hi, I'm a Mac user, I'm tryng wnop with machintoshisch themes and so on, but I can't find GTK patches for global-menu (binaries).
I'm very interested in those binary packages ... this theme is pure OSX ... (I mean estetically) :D

Macpup

#124 Post by puppyluvr »

:D Hello :D

@Prit1,
Love the Macpup, but have been running it live cd. Tonight I decided to Full H.D. install it..
Used the live cd to install..When I rebooted it I got an error:

-sh:error while loading shared library:libreadline.so.5 cannot open shared object file error 20

I wiped the partition and installed from the live cd again..same error..
Works fine w/pupsave and/or live cd...(I dont want frugal)
......Would love to make Macpup a permanent member of the kennel...Any thoughts??

@puppyluvr: Am glad you liked Macpup. When do you get this error? Does it even go into X? Or is this error occurring before that? I have never done full install of any puppy version. I prefer frugal and it has worked perfectly for me. If you have enough memory (atleast 256MB), why dont you try frugal? Otherwise we may need to find this shared library and add this to Macpup.

@puppyluvr: Do you think you can try Frugal install? How much RAM do you have?

@puppyluvr: Great job. Hope Macpup works well. The background looks great with this theme. Maybe you should try Whodo's suggestions also.

@puppyluvr: Thanks for all the good feedback and your patience. Can you please post the contents of your menu.lst if possible? I am not an expert in grub .. but just to have a look if there is something obvious missing.

There's a hidden surprise in that package, too! A little Gtk theme called gekos-leopard! It gives a Macish look to the INSIDE parts of the Rox windows, too!

wbar placement

#134 Post by linuxblues »

prit1,

How do we move the location of the wbar? Say from the bottom to the top or center/middle etc.

Posted another thread but should have stayed here (forum illiterate, pardon me!)

Have you used the wbarconfig gui that is available. that would be sweet!

Thanks for all the effort you put into macpup

@linuxblues: Am glad you like Macpup. The end of this page (thread) has some options listed.

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 2&start=30

You can also get the options available by typing

Code: Select all

wbar -help
You can play around with the options and find out what best suits you.

The answer to your question is

-pos top would get the wbar to the top

I have not tried using the gui configuration. But even otherwise the config is very simple as the options are few.

wbar

#136 Post by linuxblues »

prit1,
Hey thanks for the quick reply.
Checked out the link and was able to get a rough idea.
Now, where is the wbar config located?
home/.wbar doesn't list any parameters just icons linked to apps...
Checked in .jwmrc-tray like in the link mentioned but cannot seem to locate the thing.

Really liking this macpup.
Was able to autohide the taskbar.

It seems I do not understand the setup which Macpup contains:
Icewm (theme only?)
JWM
Wbar

All parts of the whole, yes?

So to make the experience easier and less work for you:

Goal is a media macpup with wbar in the middle of the page.

tray hidden until needed;

wbar icons zooming as much as possible;

internet, media, chat, real simple for the wife.

She clicks program or file opens/plays

This will likely end up without a keyboard so browser will have bookmarks setup to make it easy.

Anyway I am quite a novice but enjoy puppy a lot. It is the most consistent among the players we've tried.

Have a great night,
Thanks again!

@linuxblues: The code to start wbar is present in .xinitrc under the root folder. This is because Macpup uses icewm by default. It also has JWM. But the mac look is enabled because of the Mac looking theme in Icewm.

Hello prit1

Just did a FULL install of your Macpup_2.17.1_Alpha1b (nice job)
Installed GRUB, edited the menu.lst and rebooted.

Only to be confronted by the following:

Code: Select all

-sh error while loading shared libraries
libreadline.so.5: cannot open shared object file:
	Error 20
unable to determine TTY name, got /dev/pts/0
	root login on 'pts/0'

Looks like puppyluvr encountered the same problem: see here

So i did a quick search of the forum,
and found this: Can't boot full install from Grub

As Irihapeti notes in the 3rd post, the /usr directory was missing (not copied at install) only a text file called usr with some garbage in it.

Well this is exactly the same issue, only (in this case) the file (script) called usr has the following content:

Code: Select all

	#! /bin/sh
	exec defaultspreadsheet "$1"
So i booted the liveCD and copied the /usr directory to the partition with the FULL install on it.

Rebooted and i managed to get as far as choosing keyboard layout, then i chose xorg, but it would not work.
So i chose xvesa (just so i could have a mooch about).

Looking in /etc/X11
i looked at xorg.conf.NVIDIADEL515b (Yes, i have an nvidia card)
the thing that struck me was the Device Section,
it was trying to use the nvidia driver (which modprobe failed to find).

Code: Select all

Section "Device"
	Identifier "Card0"
	Driver "nvidia" #card0driver
	VendorName "nVidia Corporation"
	BoardName "NV34 [GeForce FX 5200]"
	BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection
So i edited it, to use the nv driver instead

Code: Select all

Section "Device"
	Identifier "Card0"
	Driver "nv" #card0driver
	VendorName "nVidia Corporation"
	BoardName "NV34 [GeForce FX 5200]"
	BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection
The following is as best as i can recall what i did next. (needless to say, it was a PITA)

I then re-ran the xorgwizard, but it still would not work.
So i again re-ran the wizard, when it would not work i edited the xorg.conf via Tweak,
i only edited the VertRefresh in the Monitor Section, still no go.
So i re-ran the wizard again, only this time i told it to use the "Generic Driver"
i ended up being left at a prompt, so i typed xwin and hit enter, and up came the desktop.

Biting the bullet, i rebooted and chose Macpup from the GRUB menu,
and bingo, it went right to the desktop without a hitch.

I hope this may help anybody having similar problems.

@CatDude: Thank you for the post. I believe this might be of help to folks who are having issues.

Macpup is a simple remaster of Puppy 2.17.1 using a new look. Other than that I wonder how the internal functioning can be any different from 2.17.1. :?

I never do a full install of Puppy. I already have a good looking grub so I keep using the same with any new Puppy by doing a frugal install. So have never come across such issues.

Will you be making one based on a newer version of puppy ?

I have both FULL & FRUGAL installs of various puppies.
I only tried a FULL install of this, as Meshica7 is having trouble with my GRUB package, and i thought that he might still be using this version
(have just noticed his reply, he isnt, hes using a full install of Teenpup 2008) oh well.

It just so happens i already have a FULL install of that, and i dont have any problems.
