Repository for locale files and other stuff

#1 Post by wow »

As rarsa has suggested, I have created a directory in the space kindly donated by Germanpup, with the hope that this make easier in some way Puppy's localization, this with several purposes as sharing common files (for example .mo files), regional information, tools of translation, etc.

At this moment has these subdirectories:

ftp://ftp.servage.net/Localization-project/locale/ to share locale files | Mirror: dotpup.de
ftp://ftp.servage.net/Localization-project/spanish/ stuff related to the spanish localization.

Example
  • Say you have switched your language to Spanish with 'chooselocale' and want InkscapeLite-0.36.2 in that language, all you have to do is browse the locale directory and download [inkscapelite-0.36.2-locale.tar.gz], open the archive and extract the translation file to the '/' directory:
    Image
You can use gftp (Menu>Network>Gftp), Konqueror, etc. to upload new translations, download files or create subdirectories.
URL: ftp://puppy:puppylinux@ftp.servage.net/ ... n-project/

Thanks and regards.

I've uploaded locale files for the following applications:
  • geany-0.8
    gftp-2.0.18
    gparted-0.2.4
    leafpad-0.8.1
    LinNeighborhood-0.6.5
    rox-1.2.0-2
All working for puppy-2.11, extract to the / directory the files for your language.

    coreutils-6.9-locale.tar.gz
    e2fsprogs-1.39-locale.tar.gz
    findutils-4.2.28-locale.tar.gz
    gcc-4.1.2-locale-tar.gz
    gettext-0.15-locale.tar.gz
    glib2-2.12.12-locale.tar.gz
    gimp-2.2.15-locale.tar.gz
    gparted-0.3.3-locale.tar.gz
    grep-2.5.1-locale.tar.gz
    gtk+2-2.10.13-locale.tar.gz
    gutenprint-5.0.1-locale.tar.gz
    gxine-0.5.11-locale.tar.gz
    make-3.81-locale.tar.gz
    pidgin-2.0.2-locale.tar.gz
    sane-1.0.18-locale.tar.gz
    sed-4.1.5-locale.tar.gz
    tar-1.15.1-locale.tar.gz
    transmission-0.71-locale.tar.gz
    util-linux-2.12r-locale.tar.gz
    wget-1.10.2-locale.tar.gz
    xine-lib-1.1.7-locale.tar.gz
    xsane-0.994-locale.tar.gz
This one is only for Puppy-3:
  • glibc-i18n-2.5-noarch-4 15.5 MB (locale files from glibc)
These files go in /usr/lib/locale and /usr/share/i18n/ to provide
internationalization support. You'll need this package unless you
will be using US English only.
And don't forget to search for "NativeLanguageSupport" packages in petget (e.g. glade3_NLS-3.0.3.pet)

Enjoy

Spanish Linux by WOW

#12 Post by Earwicker »

Followed your links. 2.17 goes in easy, but is semi spanish. Also, there are no drivers for my pcmcia cards, which blow up in the pre Dingo editions. Specifically, the Linksys wireless wrt54gc and the Etherjet Pro 10/100 require ndiswrapper and xircom tulip respectively, with no love given by the kernel. Reading the bootlog tells me it blew up and get a new kernel. Which I did. 3.99 but no Spanish.

So I thought, WOW has some 3.0 spanolization pets, if only i could get him to tell me how to use them. So I wrote the earlier post.

BTW, the NICOLINUX link is totally dead, and the 2.13 thing is mysteriously non-responsive.

I DID find a link to the gentoo based MAYIX and downloaded the iso. Will now give it a try, unless WOW or somebody gives me good hope of spanolizing 3.99.

Thanks to all concerned.

Will report back on MAXIX

repo

#13 Post by SLPablos »

MU, sorry I'm new to Puppy, but how should I add a repo, e.g. dotpups.de? should I edit some config? or is there a GUI? I want to install Gnome's Buoh but it has lots of failed dependencies and installing them one by one is tiring :D

I had packaged the gnome language files as SFS a while ago.
I uploaded it in wows archive now:
http://puppyisos.org/wow/puppy4sfs/
user: puppy
password: linux

It is 47 MB.

Mark, Are the locale and Gnome.sfs for version 4 and up?

Reference;
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... &start=105

I have tried Gnome sfs with locale sfs on Chice Pup yesterday but it only disabled menu without showing Gnome dedktop.

It is not a Gnome desktop look. I meant to try Korean languages or menus with Gnome.

Have you tried Gnome sfs with any other versions? Which version does it work?

Besides the Gnome.sfs, the original language files were tar files.

Wow wrote;

Do I need gtk+-2.12.1-locale.tar.bz2 or is it included in the locale sfs?

Whenever you find time, please check it out.

Mark, Never mind.

I thought I ddidn't have to follow install instruction because the one you have is sfs.

While reading the post again, I think I shoud follow it.
I will try first.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Installation:

Start with a fresh Dingo, i.e. "No pup_save" ('puppy pfix=ram')
Choose Xorg as X server
Then run these commands:
Code:
addgroup haldaemon
adduser -SDH haldaemon -G haldaemon

Also remove '/root/.gtkrc-2.0' to avoid problems with the gtk theme in Gnome.
Now install [Dingo-Xorg-DRI.pet] (by Kirk)
Copy gnome-2.20.3test02_398.sfs to the same partition where the new pup_save.2fs will be saved. (rename the version number, _398, if needed)
Now reboot and save session.
