GuestToo,
That's great!
I can at least make sure that that option is set by default.

Could you post the hacked source, so I can put it into the Unleashed package?
(and into Puppy Sourcerer)

Gaby Hacked 0.0.6

(actually, it's 0.0.4, but it's in a folder called gaby-hacked6 ...)

i hacked gaby so the Save button writes the book to the drive

NOT thoroughly tested yet
do not trust important data to it

this puts a folder called gaby-hacked6 in my-documents ... if there is a gaby-hacked6 folder in my-documents already, it will overwrite it

the package includes the gaby binary, the original source, and my hacks

basically, in form.c, i changed:
GTK_SIGNAL_FUNC(save_record), NULL );
to:
GTK_SIGNAL_FUNC(write_allbooks), NULL );

so clicking the Save button writes your database to the hard drive

i set the global variable srwc (save-record-when-changing) to TRUE, so the latest record you typed in should be automatically saved to the book in ram (this would normally be set in Options)

i also added
save_record(NULL,0);
to some of the other functions in menu_callbacks.c
so that the latest record you typed in should be automatically saved to the book in ram before the function executes

i think Gaby is working more-or-less properly, the difference is that the Save button now writes the database to the hard drive

Great!
I'll probably get a chance to test it in the next couple of days.

GuestToo, will your dotpup work with multisession 1.0.8r1? I downloaded the latest version of Gaby from here, but couldn't figure out how to get it to work.

My public library has a lot of audio books. I've turned many of them into mp3s on my computer so I can listen to them on my mp3 player and in my car. From the little I know about it, Gaby looks like it will work to catalog them, including description, rating, category, etc. I'd like to try it out.

i think this slightly hacked version is in the latest versions of Puppy ... the hack i made was to make the "save" button save to the hard drive instead of just to ram ... it might have been a bit confusing to some people the other way (clicking "save" then shutting down the program would not permanently save your data)

the newer Gaby is a lot bigger, i think, which is why Puppy is still using an older version of Gaby ... i think some people are using newer, bigger, more powerful versions of Gaby

Thanks for your reply, GuestToo.

I can't find Gaby anywhere in Puppy, except for the dotpup you made. Since multisession Puppy doesn't have a hard drive to save to, it must save to the RAM until it is told to save the session. How will your hack interact with that? (Or should I just try it and see? Laughing )

I'd like to try the newest version of Gaby. I downloaded and unzipped it but couldn't make it do anything. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Gaby in Puppy is called "Contacts" on the pinboard. Once opened, just "Add or Create" from the "Base" menu for any additional databases you want to create and go from there... Smile -

edit - sorry, jumped the gun here, should have tested it in Puppy first before posting - that's the way it *used* to work in another distro I don't use any longer. Doesn't seem to want to work in Puppy (1.08r1) in the same fashion - but I still just use it for "contacts"... worth looking into further...
