3.01: how to use Netgear WAG511 WiFi card?

#1 Post by orionmcclure »

Hi! I'm extremely new to linux and am in the process of trying to revive my old IBM ThinkPad A21p. So Far, I'm loving the Puppy 3.0 live CD, but I'm running into some difficulty getting Puppy to recognize my wireless card. I tried running WAG, but I don't think I made any progress. It's possible I didn't run it the way I should have, so it might be worth giving WAG a second chance. I've read through the WiFi wikis, but I feel like a lot of the content went over my head. Any ideas as to where I should begin? I want to hold off on the ndiswrapper option a long as possible, but I'm willing to try anything at this point.

Thanks! Let me know if I need to post more information.

@orionmcclure

http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WG511.asp

seems to indicate 2 different version firmwares

There are apparently different types also, atheros & prism

http://toys.lerdorf.com/archives/15-802 ... Linux.html

which have you got, specifically, as there could be a difference/problem?

Alternately have a read here, as it may be easier to buy a working card

To test your pcmcia setup,

In a console,

type: cardmgr
+type: cardctl ident

post the result
