CuPup 2.17.2v2 Done

#1 Post by sketchman »

It's fixed. Dingo has kindly hosted the .iso and .delta files for me. Thanks again, Dingo.

http://puppylover.netsons.org/dokupuppy/pupplets:cupup

It's at 122MB, with the following:
EasyPup
Firefox 2.0.12 with Flash 9, Adblock Plus, and Download Statusbar pre-installed
Wine 0.9.57 with uTorrent, Arial Font Family, and MSVC 2005 Redist
Leafpad is the default text editor.
Qiv is the default image viewer.
Lots of things were taken out. Too many to remember.

A screen-shot for you.

I have downloaded the torrent and seeding it now. Booted smoothly. Runs quite fast on a Cel566 with 512 MB of RAM. Firefox works smoothly, too. For me, gxine does not work at all.

Thanks Dingo.

I'll check the gxine problem. Don't know what happened. I'll do the delta thing when I fix it.

Fixed it. I was able to listen to music and watch a .wmv movie with Gxine without any problems. Weird library problem.

Remastering now.

Thanks guys, for the bug report.

It's taken longer than expected to get this done.

I fixed the Gxine problem, and introduced a new one. That is the way of computers, I guess. It will be ready by tomorrow night at the latest. Right now, my pillow is calling. Tomorrow's a long and early starting day.

Those that already have the flawed CuPup, won't have to re-download it. I'll make a delta file available when everything is fixed.

Sorry about the wait.

G'night.

I'm currently remastering for the umpteen millionth time.

Maybe someone can help me here. After I remaster, and just before I burn, I have a collection of files in a temporary folder that correspond to the livecd that will be burned. The remaster script is waaaaaay slow in burning. Like 4x when it should be 12x. Can anyone explain why it insists that the CD be burned 3 times slower than it should be?

I thought I'd be smart and exit just before the burn. Then burn the files in Grafburn. Every time I do this, the livecd will not boot. The files are there, but in 2 different PC's it won't work. Is there any way to speed up the burning with a booting cd result?

Done. :D

It's finally fixed. Figured out how to speed up the burn process, with a quick edit to /usr/sbin/remasterpup2.

I've tested all the icons on the desktop, and everything seems to be working as it should.

There's a .delta file for those that have the original .iso that's only 2.12MB. The full .iso is 122MB.

Enjoy.

wine broken?

#12 Post by dmoore »

I have not been able to run windows programs (any) with the latest CuPuP. I even tried the WineTools addon from PuppyOS rc6 (which does run windows programs fairly well but is a significantly larger distro). On the plus side, video worked well. Firefox stalled/shut down with many tabbed windows open, but on restart could bring back all the the windows (the stalling is probably related to Firefox memory leaks more than CuPup or Puppy for that matter). Even with those shortcomings and it being built on a older base, I still like it quite a bit. It has a nice screen layout, it is fast even compared to other derivatives I like (TeenPup and PuppyOS), and the iso size is perfect for my needs.

xine not fully working

#13 Post by dmoore »

Sorry, I forgot to add in my last post. Xine doesn't appear to be connectiing properly to the radio stations listed. It does work properly for local files.

Have you setted .exe for opening with Wine? (run action)

What kind of programs have you tried to starting? If you say we can do a comparing test. For me, all windows programs has been working.
See also if tour programs you have tried are in wine database. if not, probably these are not working with wine, all other yes

I don't know what the problem is, but I just booted up with the latest .iso, and clicking the icon for winecfg works, as does uTorrent. Like dingo mentioned, CuPup isn't set to run .exes with wine, so you just have to right-click any .exe and click set run action. Type "wine" and hit enter. That's it. From then on, clicking an .exe will run it properly.

If that doesn't fix it, you may have a bad .iso. Try downloading again.

The run action will be preset in the next release to make things just a little easier.

Hope that helps.

I just tried this on a stock puppy 2.17.1 install, and it doesn't work. So, I think this is a Gxine problem or a Puppy problem in the 2.17.1 release, but it's not CuPup's fault. If there is a newer version of Gxine available, I'll maybe include it in the next release to try and fix the problem.

Thanks for the report, dmoore. I try to test everything, but some things sneak by. :D

wine problems

#19 Post by dmoore »

Thanks for the replies back. Setting the run action for wine to automatically run *.exe would be a great boon for linux challenged users such as myself. For some reason, when I tried to change the run action on individual files it would not work, but I will give it another try, at least until the new CuPup comes out. Thanks sketchman for your work on CuPup, it is still my favorite derivative so far.

your run action must be:

Code: Select all

wine "$@"
please, you must leave one space between wine and "$@" remember that it' a your error if wine don't work, because is is fully working. find yourself what errors have you done
