I downloaded the needed files for JWMSpeak. It looks pretty small so it just may end up in the next Pupeee with an option in the Appearance section of the control panel to turn it off and on.
That would be useful :)
The espeak is interfering with audacity.
Tried running kp processor running to kill it - before using audacity
but can not find - might do a clean reboot to use audacity - but not ideal . . .

I use conky 1,4.9 Here is what it looks like. You may need to add modprobe thermal to your rc.local to get temperature to work Love to hear what others are using and their techniques with pupeee thanks to all that share. Here is a copy of the .conkyrc file just download to home and rename to .conkyrc

When jwmspeak uses espeak it is not permanently running so killing stuff won't do you any good you nasty nasty lobster, unless you kill jwm (which I do not recommend)! Jwmspeak can be made to be quiet by ensuring that there is not a program called jwm-speak in the path or by ensuring that this program does not start espeak. Options are:
rename /root/my-applications/bin/jwm-speak
move it out of the path
set it as not executable
open it up and comment out its guts (nearly as good as killing stuff but much more bloody)

Well I've decided to get the Everex Cloudbook instead of the EeePC.

I have been curious about those and wanting to try one. Let me know how Pupeee does on it.

Hi

I'm considering to get an Eee, the 4G Surf model w/o the camera. Of crucial importance is to have bilingual keyboard (english/greek). On my puppies this is done adding a couple of lines in the .xinitrc

Code: Select all

setxkbmap "us,gr" -option "grp:alt_shift_toggle,lv3:ralt_switch,grp_led:scroll,caps:shift,altwin:menu,eurosign:5"
, like this:

Code: Select all

...
v1.0.7 also see /etc/rc.d/rc.local0
if [ -f /root/.fonts/fonts.dir ];then
 xset fp+ /root/.fonts/
fi

xsetroot -cursor_name top_left_arrow
setxkbmap "us,gr" -option "grp:alt_shift_toggle,lv3:ralt_switch,grp_led:scroll,caps:shift,altwin:menu,eurosign:5"

#relocates right-side icons to actual right-side of screen...
/usr/sbin/fixPuppyPin /root/Choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin #v1.0.7

rox -p /root/Choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin
...
After that Alt+Shift should toggle between the layouts. For example, in Abiword, using DejaVu or Liberation fonts one could write in both languages. Could someone with an EeePC please check if this works properly with the embedded keyboard?

Many thanks in advance
JR

write and calc

#249 Post by tqwe »

dvw86,pupeee takes 48 seconds from grub to screen, with full install on the hdc.
thank you for conky posts.
i have a question when i open write or calc and try to save, the save page opens half way up the screen. like this i can not save. is there a way to get this to appear lower so i can input info and save. it can not be dragged down because you can not see the top of the save page. i looked around on the forum maybe missed something, thanks

Moving windows or dialog boxes

#250 Post by ricstef »

@tqwe,
To move a window or dialog box (if you can't see the top) simply hold the Alt key while clicking anywhere in the window, and drag it (holding left mouse button) until you can see the area you want.
HTH,

Richard.

Well I can't read Greek, but it looks like it works to me.

Thanks Dan!!!
Looks OK, but if you don't mind to check the rest of the layout,
corresponding keys are:

alt+key

#256 Post by tqwe »

ricstef thank you, the alt left click drag it works if you have a mouse. if you have no mouse on the eee you hold down alt key, hold down right click on scroll pad, then use the scroll pad to drag, thank you for getting me pointed in the right direction.

I thought I would post some pictures of ttuuxxx on ice a very lite icewm which came out this week. As you can see from the pictures it is very puppyish with the dog bones and paws theme i have it set to auto hide as did jwm but don't know how to get Asapm battery monitor applet in the taskbar also the fourth picture is what ttuuxxx looks like on my desktop not pupeee but the first three pictures are on pupeee. Im showing the fourth as to address the network applet that didn't work on pupeee not sure if its blinky in pupeee or why it just looks different. I like having the quickbar access to apps but miss Asapm battery monitor this might make a great addon in the next addition or if you just want to add it to yours. You can get ttuuxxx on ice here http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=27358

:) I am using Pupeee on a normal desktop and the keyboard mapping is set up for the Eeepc (reasonable I suppose) and that means that (for eg.) " and @ are transposed. Is this something that can be solved in the upcoming control panel?

Hi Lobster

Am also using PupEee now on a std 5yr old Pc based laptop and am sure that all I did to get correct keyboard layout was to use keyboard wizard and set local country in desktop settings.

Everything seems to work ok, ie "£$?><,./#%&()_+= or am I being dim and not fully understanding what keyboard mapping means.

What a superb package this is - all the goodies, most notable being battery display. I just added conky, osmo & hotpup.

Runs quite well in only 92mb ram / 1Ghz celeron proc. frugal.

Fantasic stuff, cant wait to see final.

V happy Puppy n00bie - Ray MK

Hmmm, Either I don't have that issue or I don't know what you are referring to. The "at" sign is achieved by pressing shift+2 on both my desktop and Eee while running Pupeee.
