Anything else you want me to try? Tried opera worked except road runner page. Tried fire fox from above worked for awhile then shutdown. Tried fire fox from above on hard drive 2.17 which sea monkey has worked forever on, fire fox worked for awhile then shut down and now sea monkey would shut down and it never has? I couldnt get sea monkey to work correct again so I saved all personal data to windows folder and did a reinstall of 2.17 on hard drive and put back personal data. SEA MONKEY works again??????

Last try new load of live CD never went to ROAD RUNNER just in case it is the cause of my crash problem.
1) did a bookmark to AOL went ok
2) did a bookmark to YAHOO went ok
3) did a bookmark to this forum firefox shutdown

If you do a opera version ROAD RUNNER for sure needs a flash player, might need java, and maybe directx???? I dont really know?

edit1) I have other puppy live CDs with older versions of fire fox I will try them out.

edit2) just tried Pizza pup with fire fox 2.0.0.3. went from bookmark to bookmark fast slow, typed in new bookmarks, solid. It has no Flash player so no yahoo movie previews and no RR home page? Tried must be 80-100 site changes?

edit3) just tried regression 2.02 I did same as above except yahoo movie preview says flash player too old and RR home page does part load then says page done? what there is of the page works. fire fox is 1.5.0.6

edit4) Final, just tried inferno. I did same as above except yahoo movie ok and RR home page ok. Firefox 2.0.09
this set up works best so far?

@ ttuuxxx Thanks for making a icewm.pet. Enough forums have been about IceWM (I think it won the Puppy WM faceoff some time back) and I'm surprised that it hasn't been added to the official package when a couple other WMs have been included. It's been really stable for me and my n00bieness.

However, It looks like your icewm6.pet worked fine for prit1 so I thought I would try it with pup396a6 and the dependency check said that it was missing the liblmlib.so.l (haven't found that yet) and a file for blinky (which I usually don't run in IceWM). Couldn't get it to run with 396 .... then I tried it on a pup214R. Got a nice white background, no menu, no icons except for ROX and an open blinky window, no toolbar ..... and no escape as 'xwin jwm' no longer worked either. Ended up dumping the pup_save file. luckily, I was running the live CD with the standard pup_save file so no big loss .... just a bit of excitement.

I haven't tried 396 but my icewm does work with it as reported by others, but yes a lib has to be added, I have found the missing lib and packaged it for you, just click to install the lib patch.
I usually get icewm going by first exiting to prompt then type startx icewm
blinky should also work.
as 2.14R goes that another whole mess of worms, The author has choose to manually move the file system around and rebuilt it by scripts, Yes it sounds great in theory but very counter productive for alternative window managers. Don't hold me on it, but thats what I've heard and i haven't tried it on 2.14r with icewm lite as of yet because I'm still building the icewm as we speak. Originally it was for the 3.0 series.
But I do want to release it for series 3&4 in the near future.
So please tell me if you need any other libs for the 396 puppy, Thanks for everything.

@earlytv: Thanks for the detailed feedback and testing. I was considering packaging the wbar and the setup and create a pet for 2.17 Puppy. But need time to do this as I am very busy with work and personal stuff for now. I will get back to you soon. I am hoping to get this done by this week.

Btw, are you more interested in the Mac look for Puppy or just a good looking and working Puppy ?

@ ttuuxxx

Thanks for the 214R info ... didn't know it had been changed that much under the hood.

Thanks for the icewm6 patch too ... installed it .... still no go. Uninstalled and reinstalled both icewm6 and patch ... no change .... black screen, mouse pointer, and white dot in lower right of screen, then back to prompt.

Will try it out on my laptop from live CD with save on usb flash today.

Glad to hear that icewm6 works for many others. Most of my boxes are pretty old (2000 -2002 except for my laptop , an Acer Intel 1.6Ghz dual-core).None of my boxes run well with 2.17 and newer puppies with the exception of 301rev. Most of my troubles are wifi related but not all. I still use 216EZ most of the time as it is the most stable for me.

Keep up the good work.

I'll be posting a updated version sometime tomorrow because I managed to finish my theme, But I still have to figure out the black background behind blinky an also added a memory applet that works but it doesn't autostart, so I have to work on that.

Macpup has been updated and the details are in the first post of this thread. The new download link is also available. I have tried to fix most of the errors reported so far.

If anyone has time, please download it and test and let me know if you see any errors.

@Ttuuxxx: I could not get blinky working on the panel. It kept popping out as a separate window and I had to disable it in this release of Macpup.

prit1,

As you define for Alpha1a (Update):

Macpup_2.17.1_Alpha1a (Update)
- Back to Seamonkey due to Firefox not handling some websites well.
- Icewm Brushed metal theme instead of OSx theme.
- Logout button added to wbar.
- Now lets you choose the keyboard layout when booting for the first time.

I download it, load from CD/DVD multisession.

Everything is working OK now.
Very happy with this Derivative puppy. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

pdrito.

Notes from all day.

First, thanks for super fast download site, I mean super fast, like 1.4 meg bytes per sec, you can see the bar screaming across as it loads.
Thanks for early link to site in a PM.

2nd I will try items on it all day on and off, so far I have gone from site to site to site, ect and its solid. The Yahoo movie preview works great so do movies full screen and small screen, music CDs great . Printer fine will try to install scanner later. Road Runner site fine. I think you added a log out icon on the bottom, it works. I think you fixed looking and asking for keyboard, it worked. I always use xorg at 1024x768 my monitor wont go higher, xversa gave me 800x600 max they look great.
Last, I gave it a acid test on hardware I will use in MAC SE case. (only 9 inch monitor)
The largest problem for all puppies there is, strange monitor I used, its the only thing that fits in the case and has very old strange standards. It works at 800x600 fine, about all you can use
on a 9 inch monitor, 1024x768, all is too small.

Looks great!!

Still rock solid. Been on for most of day.

minor item, icons on bottom still dont show untill I click screen.

@pdrito: Thank you very much for the feedback. I am glad you liked this derivative.

@earlytv: Thank you for the detailed feedback and testing. Appreciate this a lot.

I will see if I can get a fix to the icons showing up automatically without clicking.

Hi guys I made another icewm package #7
Basically it has a puppy theme I made, I has taken me hourssss to do. All the graphics like the max,min buttons everything basically, even the code came from 3 different icewm packages then I adjusted/deleted redid etc.
just install the package and exit to prompt then type startx icewm
I'll really like the buttons a dog paw and 2 dog-bones Smile
I also placed WhoDo's ruby red over my theme and gave that to tronkel for the next release of puppy 3.02. Its not included in this release because I'm keeping it small.
My next and final hopefully release will have the free memory applet included.

@Ttuuxxx: Thanks for the update. This is cool. The menu with icons, blinky working finally even in the brushed metal theme I had. Can be used in the next version of Macpup. I just have to figure out how to change the background of blinky to suite the almost white background for brushed metal theme.

I spent days trying to change the background lol and you'll have it done in seconds now, man your lucky Smile
/root/.icewm/startup <---- open startup as text
it will look like this when opened
#!/bin/bash
# this script is executed by starticewm when IceWM starts

killall icesound
icesound &

killall icewmtray
icewmtray &

killall blinky
sleep 2 && /root/my-applications/blinky-0.8-icewm/src/blinky -bg "#49437a" & <------------Change this number to the color you want
xwin starticewm

hope that helps Smile
ttuuxxx

Ps you'll have to exit x and type startx icewm Smile
