Macpup 2.17.1 Alpha 1

#1 Post by prit1 »

This is my initial effort to make Puppy look a little similar to Macosx. This was requested in a thread.

Remember: This is only Alpha1, there can be bugs, things are not final.

This is nothing big feature wise. As stated this is just for appearance.

Hope somebody likes this.

BTW I am sure Ttuuxxx might come up with a much better Mac looking version of Puppy. :)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Macpup_2.17.1_Alpha1b (Latest)
- Wbar now starts automatically. Thanks a ton to Whodo. The trick worked.
- Grub boot menu (looks better)
- Updated to the latest version of light icewm with all menu icons and blinky.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Macpup_2.17.1_Alpha1a
- Back to Seamonkey due to Firefox not handling some websites well.
- Icewm Brushed metal theme instead of OSx theme.
- Logout button added to wbar.
- Now lets you choose the keyboard layout when booting for the first time.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Macpup_2.17.1_Alpha1
- Puppy 2.17.1 (most stable according to my opinion)
- Icewm Package (Extremely small package from Ttuuxxx)
- Wbar (Docker application)
- OSX Theme for ICEWM.
- Firefox with Flash instead of Seamonkey

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

looking great Prit1 could be the start of something really good, We could almost make a community effort out of this :)
I could alter the icewm package to look more like a mac. But first I'll finish the one i've been working on all week:)
then we can start getting more applications look and feel,
wallpapers http://rpeterclark.deviantart.com/art/A ... 00-5888928
(wall papers should be resize to 1024x768)
xmms can use winamp skins so this one is pretty good http://playboy.deviantart.com/art/iPlay-7237089
etc ttuuxxx

Also i wouldn't use the name "mac" anywhere in a title. Kind of playing with fire.

SUPER Prit1. Running live CD on old P3 1.4gig intel 810 graphics chip etower.
Question, Icons across bottom never showed until I clicked on the screen, normal right?
I love 2.17 and use it the most, love the changes.
Firefox not working correct. I type in say www.ebay.com and go there saving out bookmark, now while on ebay I type in www.yahoo.com and try to go there but firefox shuts off?
Road runner, the service I use, takes 3 screens to set up for 1st use and firefox shut off again? But on this forum going many places firefox is staying on?

Opera is great. Try it and you won't be disappointed. ;) But get the latest version (9.26) which has all the goodies like Speed Dial (quick access to up to 9 pages), a thing without i can't live anymore. :P

@Ttuuxxx: I used the firefix&flash version that you have on puppylinux.ca.

Anyway if we are having issues with firefox, then I will go back to Seamonkey. I will also try opera and see if this is good.

@earlytv: Can you try using ttuuxxx's opera in the below link and see if everything works for you?
http://puppylinux.ca/ttuuxxx/programs/opera-9.25.pet

@jcoder: I was also thinking about the same idea. I will see what I can do.

I am glad atleast few like it. :) Thanks for the encouragement. :)

Hey Prit1

There is nothing wrong with my Firefox+Flash+Java pet package, I am 100% sure of that. The problem is with remastering. Puppy remaster script isn't perfect. When I first started out, It would take me 10+ times before I got it right. You do have to move some directories etc. When I have a look at your package I'll give it a good rundown.
Also That is why I recommend anyone having problems with Firefox , Just to reinstall the package over the top of the original. It should fix any problems.

Hi prit1,

nice derivative. good looking and easy to find anything.
bravo !!.

One sugestion.
On the first load of the iso on CD/DVD, the setup of the country/keyboard is missing or by-passing. So the *us* setup of country/keyboard is assume.
For me was or is very dificult to change the country/keyboard after that (in fact, was impossible to change with Setup ---> Mouse/Keyboar Wizard or Setup ----> Wizard-Wizard).
So please, dont do that. Let the setup of the country/keyboard work normally during the first load of iso.

Thanks in advance.
pdrito.

@pdrito: Thanks for the feedback. I will see why this is happenning. I believe the douglas simple remaster takes all the setup we have. I will try the smart remaster and see if this fixes it.

Alpha2 will be much better with all your valuable comments/feedback.

Thanks a lot for trying out and the encouragement.

I used Opera pet from Ttuuxxx from

http://puppylinux.ca/ttuuxxx/programs

This is working so far with the different websites I tried.

Will wait to hear from Ttuuxxx about what I am doing wrong with Firefox.

@earlytv: Yes wbar is showing up only after we click the desktop after bootup. If I find a fix, I will add it.

Live CD was off system for a while. I had firefox error reporting on and gave them all the info they wanted at each crash. When I did a reboot of LIVE CD some files were in download buffer that said they had been installed so I removed them from buffer, I had not ask for any downloads except the purple apple backround which was also still in the download buffer.
I have not had a firefox crash for awhile even though I do same things I did before that caused a crash?????????????????????? I should have wrote down what was downloaded but I didnt.
Even though the Road Runner service can download at 1.4meg bytes per sec most puppy sites dont come close on any of my systems and some sites, like when I tried living water only did 43k bits per sec and said it would take hours???? In those cases I dont download until I am sleeping and hope when I get up it made it.
My road runner service pegs the meter on the speakeasy internet speed test site.

So if I dont come back quick it may be a slow download is being put off till later.

(edit) the, mirrored on dokupuppy, site did a average of 270k bits per sec I can wait for that.

I agree that Opera is Good Stuff. I'm on 9.24 and that version does have speed-dial, so there's no need to restrict yourself to 9.26.

@earlytv: Did you try reinstalling firefox pet that ttuuxxx had mentioned?

I guess I should have just kept seamonkey as this works flawlessly on all my machines.

I will let you know when I have an update or fix.

Thanks for your patience.
