Chinese E-PUP Linux, based on Puppy Linux 217

#1 Post by cecc »

:D

First I'd like to thank Barry Kauler for his great distro, then I want to thank sccat and nyu, they have made the earlier Chinese Puppies and localization packages, my work is based on their work.

I have made some changes to the old Chinese Puppy 217 and built an updated one called E-PUP Linux 217. Both the old Chinese Puppy 217 and the E-PUP Linux 217's menu files and system interfaces scripts are translated by myself, there are some instructions in the files which I modified and translated. And I added some Chinese translation mo files to E-PUP Linux 217 from other Linux distros to make some softwares like gftp support Chinese, also many thanks to these translators.

There is an introduction of E-PUP Linux 217 in E-PUP Linux Project's main site:

基于Puppy Linux 217的E-PUP Linux 217 简体中文改进版

There is a thread in Chinese E-PUP Linux forum discussing this topic:

You can also replace some original applications in E-PUP Linux with thunderbird email client and sunbird calendar to attain the same functions.

Good Luck!

1.5.0.12 instead of firefox 2.0.0.7
Did you find the earlier version more reliable?

Did you try the beta II of Firefox 3?

:) Anyway congratulations. :D

Lobster:

Thank you for your suggestions. I'll test the beta II of Firefox 3. Also I'm working on the next version of E-PUP Linux which has a lot of new improvements. :)

Just downloaded and using it. Everything works great except that when trying to connect msn through gaim, it shows up an error saying msn need ssl support and ask me to look http://gaim.sf.net/faq-ssl.php for more information. That web seems to be down, any ideas how to fix it?

gaim changed name to Pidgin, and their URLs should redirect but seem rather slow today.

try here:

#10 Post by benner »

I am hoping for an update about a new E-Pup based on 3.01 or 4. Any word?

I am also curious to know when and whether there'll be a new E-Pup based on either 3.01 or 4.0?

While we are waiting for an update does anyone have a reliable iso from either of the two 2 series E-Pups mentioned at the start of this post?
I could only find one on puppylinux asia and the md5 checksum is always wrong!
The links at the beginning of this post do not work.
Perhaps someone with a working copy can do something to help out here.
I need a copy of chinese puppy for a friend and its sad when we cannot find a reliable download anywhere.

E-PUP Linux 217.ISO

puppy-213-zh_CN.iso

puppy-217-zh_CN.iso

on my hard drive.

I could send you a DVD of ISOs if you are in Australia...only.

PM me if you wish.

well, I'd like to say that the link labrador gave is not about the isos mentioned above,

since the isos are not made by me, some isos on that page may have copyrighted or unauthorized things in them. what's more, they are unstable and may have many problems.

paulski,

can you read some Chinese, do you come from English speaking countries, I have a page on our forum about the basic Chinese support for Puppy Linux 400 series, do you have any interest to look at it? you can use google to translate the page:

http://e-pup.5d6d.com/thread-659-1-1.html

thanks all here!

regards,

cecc

cecc,

The google translate idea was good. As I come from an english speaking background I needed that to find out what was on the page.

It looks like the E-Pup community is getting there on making a Puppy 4 in Chinese.

Labradors links did help me at least to get a pet package that has all the chinese things that I can install at once for my friend on an english puppy - I think that will be enough. I will try it later

I will check your page from time to time and see the progress on E-Pup for puppy 4.
Thanks

paulski,

Oh, I know, You can speak English, but do your friend use a little English? On my opinion, Chinese menus or other things are not so necessary for you and your friend. You can just install a kind of Chinese font (like wenquanyi bitmap song) and an input method (like fcitx) for the English Puppy Linux 400, that will be enough for you guys.

that link I gave you is just about how to do the things I mentioned above:

http://e-pup.5d6d.com/thread-659-1-1.html (in Chinese)

Frankly speaking, the link of the pet or iso labrador supplied is not part of our E-PUP Linux project, and it has nothing to do with the title of this thread(Chinese E-PUP Linux), but if you guys take no concerns about legal things(or functions of the puppy linux 400), you or your friend may just test it at your own risk.

thank you for your interest for our E-PUPs, we are doing our work to make sure that there is no unauthorized things in them.

best regards,

cecc

Thanks cecc,

I think the pets on your site with the input methods and the wenquanyi font should do what we need to do and a full E-Pup is not the right choice for my friend just yet: he is German learning Chinese. A Chinese enabled English Puppy 4.00 sounds safer for him and for me.

paulski,

Based on your description, I guess the Chinese Pack for pup4 is what your friend needs. It contains a Chinese input method, wenquanyi font and a few bug fixes to provide better support for chinese files while keeps the system minimal. The installation is same as ordinary PET packages. Just remember to restart X server to make it effective

If you don't read Chinese, here's a direct download link in English:

cecc,

Sorry to hijack your thread. Yes, those ISOs and PETs have nothing to do with your E-PUP.
