HPIJS 3.9.12

#1 Post by Wolf Pup »

Note: Works with CUPS 1.1.15 and higher. (fixed problem with cups 1.1.xx not picking up HPIJS PPD's.)

Thank you! I can finally print (and in colour too)!

Puppy 2.17, HP Deskjet F380, connected via USB.

In CUPS, installed as "HP Deskjet F300". Tried to print a test page. Worked!

(Although there was no entry for my F3-eight-zero, the driver for F3-zero-zero was good enough.)

This is the first time I've had any luck with CUPS. Until now my printers haven't been compatible.

Thanks again!

Thanks for creating that Wolf Pup. Puppy4 Dingo uses CUPS 1.1.23, so should be ok. I have not tested it with Dingo, but have gone ahead anyway and put your PET package into the official Dingo repository.

Anyone running Dingo and got a HP printer to test this PET?

Sure. I just tried this PET in Dingo Alpha 6.

Unfortunately, I couldn't set up my HP Deskjet F380.

Went into "Setup CUPS printing" but, when it was time to choose the driver for my HP Printer, I didn't find HP Deskjet F300 Foomatic/hpijs, hpijs 2.8.2.10(en) which was what got my printer to work in Puppy 2.17.

(What I did:
Downloaded and booted into Dingo alpha 6.
Opted for a 512MB save file during reboot.
Once back in, installed the HPIJS 2.8.2 PET (and rebooted again).
Setup CUPS printing: couldn't find the right driver.)

for the older cups 1.1.x , cups scheduler needs to be reloaded, so that cups will pickup the new PPD's.

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/cups reload
/etc/init.d/cups restart
I had forgotton unlike 1.2.xx, cups 1.1.x needs to be reloaded first.

I'll update the hpijs package, so that the PPD's will register with cups 1.1.xx.

EDIT: package with fix is uploaded.

It works!

Downloaded and installed hpijs-2.8.2_static_fix.pet.
In CUPS, found the HP F300 driver this time.
Printed the test page successfully.

Thanks!

Your earlier version was working OK but then I noticed that on my 4.0 laptop Geany insisted on printing a pdf-writer file when it called:

Code: Select all

/usr/bin/lpr /mnt/home/boot/grub/menu.lst
Your latest version 2.8.7 fixed what was broken and sent the file to the default USB printer and not a pdf-writer file.

THANKS!

After downloading the new HPIJS pet, everything works great printing to a shared printer through CUPS, except after each printing I get the message:

"Can not get the ticket cache for root"

This shows up in the CUPS printer screen on localhost:631.

I can get the printer back by using the cups system to stop and restart the printer. Puppy Google comes up with no hits at all. Any ideas on what is happening here? I'm using Puppy 4.0 and I've got CUPS set up using rcrsn51s directions found here

I'll give this just one bump to see if anyone wants to comment. If not, I'll let it die.

My printer is perfectly usable, I just have to stop and start it in CUPS after each job. I think it has something to do with the way CUPS handles Windows user accounts but I haven't figured out how to fix it yet.

Howdy
I got the hpijs-2.8.7.pet to work just fine for my HP pcs 1210 all-in-one with dingo 4. It sure installs nicer and faster than in xp.
I haven't tried scanning with it yet but printer works quite nice,
I saw a mention somewhere that the pet doesn't work in Dingo that was dated back a bit. Its working now!
