Imagine my delight when I found inkscape (a derivative of sodipodi) was avaiable with this easy pack utility

Well it did not work for me on Puppy - No Pups allowed?

How did you get on?

no, autopackage will not work on Puppy

an autopackage is basically binary files compressed in a package, with a bash script that runs if you run the package program

not a lot different from a dotpup ... but there are differences

what you do, is download an autopackage, and execute the autopackage

i could have setup dotpups that way, but it would mean the user would need to mess with permissions to make it executable and i wanted it as easy as possible for the user

anyway, the script is a bash script, and will not run properly with Puppy's Busybox-ash

i run bash anyway, but it still won't work, because of the way it uses the Gnu-Util programs (programs like head, tail, sed, chmod ...) ... most of these programs have been replaced in Puppy by Busybox simplified versions

so no, autopackage will not work in Puppy
not directly anyway
