Puppy: Puppy 3.01
System: Pentium II, 400M; 96M RAM
I've got the system without HD.
So I installed HD, installed Puppy, and rebooted. Nothing happened. New (not original) hard drive wasn't present, and box asked about updating BIOS by using floppy disk. Floppy let you access BIOS and tell it that you replaced HD.
Trying to find floppy, I found manual for different Compaq box. There was a description of cleaning CMOS so that was worth to try.
There was CMOS jumper on motherboard with two positions: "normal" and "clear".
1. Turned off the box.
2. Changed the jumper to "clear" position.
3. Turned the box on.
4. Waited for a while and turned it off again.
5. Changed the jumper to "normal" position.
6. Turned the box on. Now it gathered information and saw HD.
7. Rebooted, set up a time (date) for BIOS.
Done
