Barry,
About the Citrus theme. On my Eeepc I like it. I really like the included castle background with it. On my 17 inch monitor it is just too much. I could get used to it though.

Hey, dvw86, are you gonna offer up your control panel for Dingo? I know it's been a while since you created it, but my understanding is that murgalua will either be included or available as a runtime for Dingo. Your CP would be a great addition to the new breed of Puppy from 4.xx onward. Just a thought.

Well I thought about it, actually I thought about releasing a Dingo based Epup iso just for the eeepc with all the needed drivers and the control panel. I have some reservations about it though. First off Barry has expressed a desire to stay away from MurgaLua since he was trying to shrink and standardize Dingo. Secondly John Murga was still kind of "in-between" releases and some of the things I was doing would be affected by his upgrades. Thirdly A lot of the control panel's functionality is already taken care of with other features in Puppy. I was just trying to bring all the controls in one easy to find location. If people want to help me with it I'll be watching the other thread.

Yes, I just looked on John Murga's site, it looks like v0.6.0 is due out very soon, shortly followed by 0.6.1. His last, v0.5.5, was released mid-2007.
I'll wait for it then make it into a PET package.

Thanks to Caneri I've uploaded the DRI pet packages to here:

http://puppylinux.ca/tpp/kirk/Dingo-Xorg-DRI.pet

http://puppylinux.ca/tpp/kirk/Dingo-Xorg-include.pet

This is for folks who want 3D acceleration. The include pet package is only needed if you want to compile. After installing, you will probably only need to restart X. If the driver for you specific card was not included, you may have to re-run the Xorgwizard. To test, open a terminal and type:

# glxgears -info

You should see some gears and in the terminal window near the top you should see GL_RENDERER = Mesa DRI and the name of your card. If you want to try a game install SDL and try a game. Here's a SDL pet package and a game:

Pmount continues to annoy me - how to eject a CD with it?!

On my laptop the button on the cd drive gets disabled after putting a cd in so you can't push the button to retrieve the cd even if it's not yet mounted. If you do mount it then it will automatically eject after unmounting or I can eject it by typing in a terminal:
# eject sr0
There should be an eject button added to pmount.

@BarryK - on your blog you mention hacking Stardust Gtk-2 theme for Dingo. If you unpack the EZpup-3.01.pet file you'll find a Gtk-2 theme called MyUbuntu (unfortunate name, but there you go). That should fit well with Citrus. If not there's another theme in the same vein called Ubuntu Pearl. Either one could be converted to JWM with your script and give you what you want/need.

Hope that helps.

PostPosted: Sun 20 Jan 2008, 14:28    Post subject: Help information for network wizard checkbox
Subject description: For insertion into /usr/share/doc/net_setup.html

Barry,
Here is a write-up explaining the new network wizard checkbox, "Identify all interfaces to the network as representing the same computer.". It could be inserted just before the Glossary.
Quote:
Identification to the Network

The main window contains a checkbox for the way the computer identifies itself to its network (LAN, ISP). It should remain unchecked, to be consistent with older equipment and operating systems, unless you know that your network is IPv6 compliant or requires IPv6 compatibility. To be effective, the option requires an IPv6-compliant network.

Although it is geeky, its point is that if you don't understand it, you don't need it.

My latest previous post is for rc.network (not net-setup.sh) here:http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=167498#167498
It does not delay when there are more than one NIC in the computer; just works with only one. If the "sleep 3" is really important, users with multiple NICs would see different behavior from those with only one.

PostPosted: Mon 21 Jan 2008, 12:40    Post subject: Addition to xorgwizard "troublesome toshiba laptop list"
Subject description: Please add support for Trident Cyber9525DVD graphic adapter, in Satellite 2590CDT & Portege 3110CT.

Barry,
After working with youb & Barrington (forum names) and their Cyber9525DVD adapters, I conclude that the following "oem" line can be added to lines 484 & 485 in the xorgwizard script: "oem: Copyright 1997 TRIDENT MICROSYSTEMS INC.", to make their laptops boot into Puppy. I recognize that the signature line is very general -- potentially for all Trident adapters made in 1997, but maybe it is better to include it anyway, even though some vintage laptops might not need the fix. The resultant new command, new lines 484-486, would be:
Code:
if grep -q -F 'oem: MagicGraph 256 AV 44K PRELIMINARY
oem: Copyright 1997 TRIDENT MICROSYSTEMS INC.
oem: Trident Cyber 8820' /tmp/ddcprobe.txt;then
(Be sure there are no trailing blanks in the oem strings. And note the "." after "INC".)

My conversation with Barrington starts here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=166725#166725
Thanks.
Richard

Puppy Alpha 3 and alpha 5

Pmount takes long time scanning
Also I prefer that ROX doesn't open the resource automatically as this is not often needed for me.

Puppy Alpha 5

Xine - with nothing playing selecting full screen makes control and video window disappear completely. No way to get it back.
Simular thing when no video window enabled and disabling the control window. No way to get the windows back.
