In the following addresses:

http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Printing/hplip_for_puppy-1.7.4a.pet

http://puppyfiles.ca/dotpupsde/dotpups/Printing/hplip_for_puppy-1.7.4a.pet

you can find a repackage of the hplip utilities for puppy linux.

This hplip_for_puppy-1.7.4a.pet allows full control of HP printers.
For PSC-all-in-one models, it allows scanning and accessing photo-cards.
The suffix 1.7.4a corresponds to the hplip version.

This version includes several improvements respect the previous hplip_for_puppy_217-1.7.4a-i486.pet:

1. The size of the package has been reduced
2. The optical text recognition program gocr is now included in the package
3. The package installs neatly in puppy versions from 2.17 to 3.01
4. With some extra work, it can be used in other puppy versions. For instance,
in order to install it in puppy 2.16, cups must be also installed.
See Billwho?'s instructions in http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=20495
for previous puppy versions (the instructions refer to the package hplip_for_puppy_217-1.7.4a-i486.pet
which was primarily released for puppy 2.17)
5. Unfortunately, at present these packages do not install in Dingo.

Cheers,

Lluis

Yes, it does include hpijs. No extra pieces should be added by hand (I hope).

Just tested this out with an HP c5180 multifuncion in a clean install. Installed the pet the hptool immediately popped up to scan the network, could find printer first couple of gos then bingo. No hard questions just keep clicking next. It had printed the test page before the package manager had finished installing it, this takes a good few minutes. I also used it to scan but couldn't get gocr working, didn't try very hard.

Thank you, this is much easier than installing the printer on windows. For those that don't know the HP package comes with a host of commandline tools. Just type
hp then TAB in console to see

I use it as follows:

1. Acquire preview.
2. Select the area and scan it at ~300dpi resolution, in gray mode.
3. A viewer window is automatically open. Under file tab, the options "save" and "ocr - save as text" appear. I use the "ocr - save as text" one.
That's it. I hope it helps.

Is this thread still active? Also, is there anyway for this to work in Puppy 4.1.1? Cheers.

This thread is a bit outdated. Please use new hplip versions, and preferably "lite" ones.
You can find them (and instructions to install) at
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=184635&search_id=234248805#184635
In case your printer were not detected by cups at first trial, reload cups:
Code:
/etc/init.d/cups reload
/etc/init.d/cups restart

and retry installing your printer with cups.
Hope that helps.
