Re: removing standard packages - use pupbegone

#21 Post by ttuuxxx »

I knew enough to realize that removing standard packages was something that petget DIDN'T do, so I suggested it could be changed.

I didn't know enough in that pizzasgood had already done much the same thing with his petbegone. Here's the link to that thread:

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 85&t=17035

As Emily Littella used to say, "Never mind...."
I wish it was that simple some packages are grouped together so when you uninstall one application you kill the other, Its mostly libraries but still you get bad results. So try your system after fully.

Will fat free run on a Toshiba laptop Pentium II 233MHz with 48M of RAM?

I'm looking for a linux distribution that run on above machine.

I already use puppy 3.01 for another machine and I love this distribution. So, it will be great to continue using puppy for both machines.

Thanks

Vanchutr,

Just a comment:

The author for Edit-sfs is Pizzasgood and not Pizzapup ;-)

Link for the tool at:

Hi yes FatFree would work, But If you tried My Fire Hydrant JWM version as a Full Install On your Hard drive, I also think that would work :) http://www.puppylinux.ca/ttuuxxx/firehy ... m3.01c.iso
Its just a bit bigger than the main stream puppy, And when you do a full hard drive install, It doesn't Go to memory, Which in your case would be good thing :)

ttuuxxx,

First of all, congratulations for this version of FireHydrant 3.01c!

It is amazing. The icons are very nice. You should had spent some time on them, should you?

I've installed this version on my "old boy" but unfortunatelly it is to have to the guy. I've choosen full install on hd (not frugal).

Firefox is almost impossible to use (I'm using dillo to type this).

I will try FireHydrant a little more and try to live with this machine as is. I know that is not a fault from FireHydrant. In fact, I'm looking for a small linux version to work with this machine trying to use its all "capacity".

I'm thinking on an unleashed version with about 12M (maybe just the puppy core) + a light browser as dillo or links2.

Anyway, congratulations again for this great derivative version from puppy!

Regards,

kkpity

There are a few ways to remove xorg from an installed fat-free or the official puppy version the easiest is with this very basic no thrills script I made
which just removes everything from xorg that is extra and leaves you with the equivalent xorg libs tiny here it is

make sure you are in xvesa when you run this

P.S I have been away for awhile because I had two eye operations and I count my blessings that went well and I can see again :D

I want to thank Barry K for the countless hours he had to spend developing puppy and I wish that he would write a book on scripting I would be on the top list to buy it ! hint ,hint

#!/bin/sh
#for version 3.00 and above ! xorg basic to xorg libs tiny converter ... for those who only want xvesa

# (xorg 7.2 is much larger in version 3.00 and 3.01 ) this script converts xorg basic to xorg libs tiny by removing the differences between the two only leaving what is needed for xorg libs tiny .This simple script by Joe Arose alias big_bass the commented lines are there just for a reference if you want to verify the remaining files there is a total of 65 files that remain plus the files you need for your video card

a fix for xvesa

#30 Post by big_bass »

If you try to use the video-wizard and it won't run again here is the fix
this is for all versions of 3.00 and 3.01

below is a simple script to fix xvesa

#!/bin/sh
##fix for xvesa by big bass. The xvesa video-wizard in version 3.00 and 3.01 won't let you restart the video-wizard if /etc/xextraoptions does not have this line that says -shadow without this value the script is broken and won't run. This is the patch to make it work again
looks simple but it took me a long time to solve it

echo '-shadow' > /etc/xextraoptions

Well Glad to see your back Big Bass, And I'm very happy for your eyes to be doing so well, excellent stuff, great New Years/ Christmas Gift.
I have added the "Fat Free" to ttuuxxx forum so you have your own section also, Just encase you haven't seen it yet, Users were requesting it.
http://ttuuxxx.com/english/viewforum.ph ... 019a9da295
the easier way of getting to it is http://ttuuxxx.com/english/index.php
or even just going to www.ttuuxxx.com and click the forum link :) lol

Anyways great to have you back once again :)
hope you take it slow on your eyes and your pc monitor, I'm no doctor but looking at a screen for prolonged time must hurt the eyes, I'm one to talk, I spend like 12hrs a day on it, lol

fat-free

We are glad you are back big_bass and I'm still loving fatfree 3.00 I was playing around with conky today and tying out different scripts I placed one in my spot folder by accident and rebooted thinking that i had placed it in the documents folder. To my supprise when it rebooted I now have a dockable movable winodw of conky that i can either turn off move or dosk anywhere on the screen. Leave it to mypup to do something like that.....lol. Here is a screencap of the results. http://img.flashtux.org/img13265edfbf4xe74a301f.png
I want to thank you and ttuuxxx for all the great work in fatfree and firehydrant.

Thanks for that MyPup as Fat-Free went Barry K made the house, Big Bass Ripped the House apart with a crowbar, And all I did was market it. lol
Ok Big Bass Did all the hard work of removing the software. All I did was make Big Bass a web page, and a Forum to use. Which was my pleasure because he is a hell of a nice guy :)

But Fire Hydrant that was/is 100% mine other than the puppy or fat-free base that I used.
Man So many hours, Like today i'm in the middle of making a new Fire Hydrant JWM+JAVA, I spent like 6hrs trying to get live 365 going on streamtuner , 100's of web pages and I must of made 15 different streamtuner packages, and well I think its a lost cause. But hey maybe someone reading this might give it a try:) I saw your grabit icon and said well i'll try one also lol I'll add it on the end. The second one i took the original grabit it dog, gave him a 3D look and put what i called a "lifesaver" under him. lol oh well back to building FH,
