where is the C compiler in 3.01 release ???

#1 Post by Joydeep »

I am using puppy 3.01 and installed GCC & GCC+ from the 3.01 unleashed.
But during compilation process of source code it reports no C compiler. cpp and gcc commands report "command not found" Could any one kindly suggest ?
thanks

http://www.puppylinux.com/development/compilekernel.htm wrote:Puppy has a very simple way to turn into a complete C/C++ compile environment: by addition of a single file named "devx_xxx.sfs", where "xxx" is the version number. For example, Puppy 2.12 would have a matching development file named "devx_212.sfs".
When running from a live-CD, just download devx_xxx.sfs to the same place that you have the personal storage file, pup_save.3fs -- usually that is in directory /mnt/home/. Same goes for other modes of installation that have a pup_save.3fs file.
If Puppy is installed to hard drive with a full "Option 2" installation, then there is no personal storage file -- in that case, look in the web page Puppy on a hard drive to find out how to install devx_xxx.sfs.

joydeep, it may be helpful for you to find all the puppy resources that are available to you, such as http://www.puppylinux.com/

Searching the forum is always a good start before posting questions as many have been answered before, such as http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=8871 and http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=22701 whihc both relate to your question.

You can also use http://wellminded.com/puppy/pupsearch.html to try and find out information which is already available.

First up, I'll clear up that I all ready have and am using devx_301.sfs. and that I use the sites you have listed as well as http://www.puppylinux.org and http://www.dotpups.de It was also with Search that I found this thread.

In any case i went to ./configure a package that I downloaded from Linux Packages and get the following error:

configure: error: C preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check.
See 'config.log' for more details.

I've included the log.

Code: Select all

This file contains any messages produced by compilers while
running configure, to aid debugging if configure makes a mistake.

It was created by dbus-python configure 0.82.4, which was
generated by GNU Autoconf 2.61. Invocation command line was

  $ ./configure

a search of the forum turned up a few other people who'd experienced the same thing. for instance http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... a4a4ce1b51

sorry i can't help further, i'm no programmer!

steven,

I'm wondering if you're devx_301.sfs was corrupted during download. Did you dload it using a dloader that can resume from breaks, like wget? I don't have devx_301.sfs, but these files are in my devx_300.sfs, and I can't imagine there would be too much difference between these two devx's.

Also have you downloaded & installed the other files required to compile this? See:

http://www.t2-project.org/packages/dbus-python.html

stevenbinion,

or, to save yourself some grief, & since pup3.01 is comaptible with slack12.0, why not just install this package:

http://repository.slacky.eu/slackware-1 ... 86-1sl.tgz

See 'config.log' for more details.
try a fresh pup_save file.

Glad it's working for you.

Thanks for the confirmation. I had that happen before. Only once though, it's just some random thing.
