@edoc,

What I do is open Rox to the folder I would like to save a download to and then right click on an open space inside the folder and select "Window".

Then if you look down you will see "open terminal here".

Then proceed to use the wget -c command for a download and it will go into that folder.

Does your wget command download to "whatever folder is open"?

Yes, it downloads to the working directory. When you open your console, enter PWD; this will return /root telling you that is your current or working directory. So, to download to a specific directory (or folder) you simply CD to it before starting the wget command.
In your example:
#cd /mnt/home/my-downloads
#wget -c http://www.elmirachristianacademy.com/C ... up_RC1.iso.

What Caneri said is another very good way of doing the same thing but utilizing a feature of Rox.

I've used e-sword on a winxp laptop (it finally crashed by spilling water on it, rendering it totally useless---oh well), as well as BibleDesktop, GnomeSword, and BibleTime. Beyond that, I don't know what to say. I would rather not waste system resources to run an emulator when it is not needed.

Anyone upgraded from an older Puppy to ChurchPup?

I'd like to do the upgrade from TEENPup but cannot lose all of my Seamonkey settings,
especially the E-mail folders with archived E-mails, Address Book, Bookmarks, and Passwords.

I guess that upgrades should be part of this testing phase we're in. I'm downloading teenpup now to attempt an upgrade, But I think some programs may clash.

I'm thinking if you had a working ChurchPup installed and could copy the /root/.mozilla directory from TeenPup to/root of your ChurchPup installation, all emails, bookmarks and cookies should import OK. I'll test a few things and report back to you at the New ChurchPup thread

I wonder if there is any difference between the layout of the .mozilla folders between
TEENPup and ChurchPup?

If not that may be the most elegant solution.

I have been using an external USB HDD to save everything because I knew the
TEENPup load was temporary.

Obviously, i have NOT been monitoring this thread -- soooo sorry. I must have not clicked "notify me when a reply is posted."

Regarding the ChurchPup download through the ChurchPup home page - are there lingering problems i need to address, or is all solved? We have a generous allotment of bandwidth available and i want to spare others from using up theirs. Do let me know.

Also, i have been far too busy with school and Christmas and family to attend to the md5 sum. I am hoping there are no problems there.

Regarding e-sword and Bible Desktop, i recall a bit of a cleaner interface with e-sword, since the Strong's references consist not of clicking on numbers added to the text but simply mousing over the numbers -- a nice feature. However, i am concerned about a lightweight program, and i was under the impression the e-sword would be less of a resource hog than Bible Desktop. Am i correct in this? I know the java required for Bible Desktop takes much...i would like to include a LIGHTWEIGHT Bible program in the "lite" version. Y'all's thoughts on this are appreciated....

OK! So i have not dropped off the face of earth! I HOPE to get a Lite version going over break BUT things are piling up on me -- bathroom repair, bedroom "remodelling," 6-10 computers from school to go over -- wait a minute! Aren't we supposed to be celebrating something important this time of year??!?!?!

Just downloaded from the academy site, took awhile but I used wget and it went smoothly.

A friend also downloaded at home using his new fios (verizon fiber optic) connection -
in a fraction of the time - he's spoiled!

Will advise shortly if my download came through cleanly.

I used wget in the FireHydrant Puppy distro.

I have rebooted to clean out the buffers and am going to try wget -c from the console
in case there is something wrong with the gui interface in FireHydrant.

OK - let me know! On an earlier post i was told how to get a fresh and hopefully correct md5 from the website. Hmmm....

This was uploaded to the site and then i downloaded and used it (i think that was the order) -- but i really don't know any other way to make sure there was no corruption of data in the transfer...???

I looked on the ChurchPup site and there is lots of good info there but I didn't see specs as to minimum hardware, especially RAM.

My Panasonic Toughbook CF-28 currently only has 256M
of RAM and I am getting insufficient memory errors when
I try to load it.

FireHydrant FH_JWM3.01_c loads and runs OK.

I have a 2G Linux Swap on the 30G HDD

Could it be something other than RAM?

Hi I'm Glad FireHydrant FH_JWM3.01_c loads and runs OK. but ChurchPup is about 3 times bigger, If i was you i would do a full install, Because ChurchPup is larger than your Ram you have installed.And that I would think is your main issue. Well atleast I hope

Hi Doc,
I would recommend 512 megs of ram for good performance but Churchpup has been known to run on 384 megs if a swap partition is available. I'm sure the errors are entirely caused by low ram. Any chance you could squeeze another 128 megs in the Toughbook?

BTW I completed a download of http://www.elmirachristianacademy.com/C ... up_RC1.iso md5sum was good. I used wget -c http://www.elmirachristianacademy.com/C ... up_RC1.iso in a terminal to download it.

384 RAM & 1 GB swap here and it runs fine. Seems it should run on less than that, albeit slowly.

Gimme specs and anything else and i'll be happy to post on the main website.

I did successfully download (wget -c) and burn a good CD (, thanks!

I need to revisit the notebooks forum and write down the compatible RAM and order some.

The CF-28 is technically limited to 512M RAM but like many Panasonic computers many versions were able to recognize more than that - I am hoping that mine is one of them!

Right now it has 256M RAM and 2G swap and for some reason I cannot get ChurchPup to use the Linux Swap.

Just initiated a Full Install from a Frugal install of FireHydrant, had a little trouble with the X setup (probably a CF-28 thing) but did a cold restart and ChurchPup came up beautifully!

Nicely laid-out and real clean. Will report more as I poke around and try to break things! It's a "gift" !?!

Still liking what I see!

Some Questions:

1. I am very unhappy with several corporate policies of Google and thus avoid using them whenever possible. How might I alter the default Google search engine and replace it with Clusty.com, please?

2. Also, is it possible to replace the Bibleserver Toolbar selections KJV/TNIV/NIRV/NIV with the NeXt Bible?

3. If I copy /.mozilla from my other laptop over to the one on which I just loaded ChurchPup will FireFox and ThunderBird use the E-mail folders and archived messages and address book and bookmarks, etc. or will it just make a big mess?

If you have Windoze installed somewhere ( i DON'T) you can go to www.crucial.com and download a nice little program that will look at your computer and tell you what you need.

Good Morning, Doc,
I just now installed the Clusty search plugin from http://clusty.com/toolbar/mozilla.
Then I opened firefox typed about:config into the url bar and hit enter.
Then typed search into the filter bar and double clicked on browser.search.defaultengine.name and changed the string value from Google to Clusty. That's it. The pic may explain things better.

I don't think so Doc. A better brain than mine could make a Next Nible toolbar,but as far as I know the Bibleserver toolbar only searches bibleserver.com.

I have tested this procedure on my work computer and It worked. If in doubt I'd recommend backing up the .mozilla folders from both machines just in case I only dreamed it. (Hey,it could happen)

On extra step here, had to close and re-open FireFox to see the change.
Just a wee bit happier here now.

Well yes actually, I think abook.mab is a mozilla address book file.
I also recognize a java plugin and I think a realplayer plugin.

Not sure what the problem is ,but I usually right-click on .mozilla and copy to a different name like mozillabackup so there are two directories with identical contents but different names. I've never gotten errors when doing it that way.

I've been kind of busy today, but things have slowed down so I'll reproduce what I did at work and report back with details ASAP.
