Quarry is a multi-purpose GUI for several board games, at present Go, Amazons and Reversi (a.k.a. Othello.) It allows users to play against computer players (third-party programs, e.g. GNU Go or GRhino) or other humans, view and edit game records. Future versions will also support Internet game servers and provide certain features for developers of board game-playing engines for enhancing their programs.

To start this app, Menu->Fun->Quarry, or quarry on the commandline. If you want to play Go against a computer opponent, download GuestToo's gnugo .pup from here:

Then, after installing gnugo:

To register a game-playing program in Quarry, first open the Preferences dialog and select GTP Engines category in its left pane. (You can also click the Manage Engine List button in the New Game dialog, which immediatly displays the GTP Engines category.)

Then click the Add button and, in the appeared dialog, enter the command line required to launch the program in GTP mode. You should consult the program’s manual to find out how the command line should look like. For instance, command line for GNU Go should be like this (note the double hyphens):

gnugo --mode gtp --quiet

The quarry site also mentions Grhino as a potential reversi computer opponent, but this requires gnome libs unfortunately.
