Synaptics touchpad driver for Puppy 4

#1 Post by kirk »

Here's the Synaptics / Alps Touchpad driver for Puppy 4's Xorg 7.3. I've attached a binary and the source. The source has been patched to compile with Xorg 7.3.

Does this include the syndaemon and synclient?
Time savers:
Find packages in a snap and install using Puppy Package Manager (Menu).

Not in the binary, but it's in the source.

Something I don't understand.
I am pretty sure I saw the synaptics driver in Puppy, but can't remember which release. Maybe the 2.17.
Now in 3.01 I don't see it anymore.
So nice to have a binary now.

At that time I tried also to compile the syndaemon and synclient, but got stuck in a series of libraries missing.
When I found one there was another missing.
Finally I gave up not being very familiar with compiling.

Maybe I'll give it a try again.

2.17.1 definitely has the synaptics driver. It Works well.

I'm using NOP-217-up2 and have updated the network wizard and dhcpd (using dhcpcd-3.1.4.pet and network-wizard-Oct07.pet) and added back only Abiword. Since I use an alphanumeric Wep KEY, I have modified line 861 in wag_profiles.sh to:

[ "$PROFILE_KEY" ] && RUN_IWCONFIG="${RUN_IWCONFIG}\n iwconfig ${INTERFACE} key $PROFILE_SECURE s:$PROFILE_KEY"

It really is solid, with good hardware and wireless support, 2.6.21.5 kernel, Dougals' most excellent remaster, working CUPS, and Opera 9.22 with flash 9 and working gxine in 96Mb or so. The iceWM is growing on me or me on it and the later Operas just work, both for email and virtually all urls now. This remastered CD is my current 'here, try this' CD.

Thanks for NOP Gray! I moved back from 3.01 as it insisted on mounting my ideflash top level.
Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.
