Hello, I have finished my first release of Dragon Puppy. So i decided give here link to my pages so you can download iso. This is the first version. So if you find somethink to fix post it here. KNOWN ISSUES: Missing some file asociations so you have to run some things manualy. First running the program and then open the file. Old menu.. Working on it to get menu to more friendly look. WHAT WORKS: For example. mp3 and wma stream playback in firefox. Flash... Default player is xine. Graphic editor is Gimp. IM is Pingin. Xfce4 clear look almost all in black. SIZE: Only 115 MB (need some cleanup then will be smaller) SCREENSHOT:

I have done some clean up added pdf reader. Iso size is now 108 MB Many work to do. Still working on that stupid xvesa script. Maybe in next release wil be fixed. News: Changed font in ROX-filler. Still needer for some aplications. To work propertly. Added new wallpaper. I hope you will like it. Old still included. So you can change it to old if you like it. Added startup sound. So when your Dragon puppy boot every in 10m circle will know. I have done some work on boot so its now faster. Fixed emblems and some file asociations. Big menu cleanup Removed some useless things (alot) Screenshot:

Just downloaded & burned ISO of Dragon Puppy and I like it very much! XFCE is a great light, fast but complete desktop environment for Puppy. I like the dark theme - see my Lighthouse Puppy here: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=4001&start=270 Multimedia seems to work well in Firefox. It would be nice to have Java & a PDF reader as well. I will continue to use Dragon Puppy and will report on any issues that arise... TANJ! I wish I had time to try that out, because it looks pretty incredible from what I can see. I'll have to set aside some time when I get a chance.

Ok in next version i will add xpdf and what type of java are you missing JRE or JDK? Can you tell me what are the advantages of Enlightenment, i saw that window manager before but it take a lot to configure? For files you are using Rox filler? And the last question. Can you send me link to latest edition of you puplet. Thanks. Also thanks for you support. |

3D suppport is useless in puppy. Files needed are too big and what do you want to render? WF Enemy territory? With everything installed puppy have still poor perfomance. And you have to configure a lot of things, if you want to use it like user. MD5 added... Download section. About .sfs does they load into RAM after boot or just mount? If they only mount, then they are useless. Because system loosing performance given by RAM drive. Thats the reason that I for example have no cache in firefox. Because everything i cache will be saved to hdd and next boot this will slow down you puppy. Same with updates, but worst. |

D1G1T: Thanks for your prompt response. The PDF viewer has become less critical as I just discovered this very good online PDF viewer from Sweden: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=23685 However, Foxit Reader is a good small PDF reader if you want to add one. I have not had good experience with Xpdf - I don't think it has kept up with recent changes to Adobe's PDF format (same for Ghostview, btw). More about Foxit Reader (free) here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foxit_Reader The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is all that is needed to view webpages that use Java - JDK is for those who wish to write Java programs, it is a development environment. Don't worry about adding JRE to your distro as it is an additional 80Mb or more. Users who want it can easily get it as a dot.pup - which is what I will do. You could add more codecs (windoze media, real media, quicktime, etc.) for xine, though! 
Enlightenment is a very good, sophisticated window manager, not for newbies! There is an excellent Wikipedia article comparing Xwindow managers here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_X_Window_System_desktop_environments I must tell you that Lighthouse Puppy is not 'mine'. I meant to refer only to the theme & other decorations I selected for my setup. It is actually the creation of TazOC, and uses icewm & jwm with Rox to manage the desktop you see in my screenshot. This way webpages were cached for the duration of the session, but flushed - not saved - at shutdown. That user may have been Lobster, come to think, but I can't find the posting now! Online pdf viewr is nice. But I prefer build in PC. So i Installed and tested xpdf 3.0.0.0 on few pdf files and have no problem? I used Foxit some time ago on WIndows, but i simply cant get it alive on Puppy and its big cca 10MB , I dont know where is mistake. The console write segmentation error. On ubuntu runs well. About Java, there are few sites that need Java for runinng but as you say its 80 MB additional space. Too much i think, and you can live without this pages because similar exists. If dont, let me know. With that cache its a good idea, but how to set firefox to write cache to /tmp in some kind of configuration file? When I started do develop my. own puppy. I give my self some rules. It must be small, fast, user friendly. Thing like Java, 3D support, WIne. etc. are cool and you need it some times, but not to much like messager or browser, media player. With all that wonderful adds like wine ... Dragon puppy will be about 300MB and some puppy derivates about 300 with this stuff exist so why make the same thing? PS: I will add more codecs to xine, that no problem. |

I searched the forum for the post about writing Firefox cache to /tmp but couldn't find it. Firefox normally writes the disk cache to /root/.mozilla/firefox/aw7qmctq.default/Cache. The post suggested it could instead be written in /tmp. But looking at about:config I can see no instruction on where to write cache, so I'm unsure just how this was done - anyone out there know? _________________ Welcome to my weird, wild, wonderful, wired world! |

I downloaded it to try & had the same segfault error. Odd because I had Foxit working on a previous pupversion, yet ldd ReaderLinux shows no missing libraries. This link seems to say QT4 is required!: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/bbs/archive/index.php/t-5796.html If it could be gotten to work, in regard to it's size, you can reduce it to about 2.6M with upx. |

Saw that screen some time ago. But sad is that real look is different at begin. And you must do everything by your self. Who carres about FF cache:) for one session its almost uselles, only useful if you are refreshing one site many times. I looked at xines codes and have no idea what codecs are you missing i tried play .mov .wmv etc.. everything works. About that QT library.. To many work for nothing. Xpdf work fine so why use other, If you found some specific bug let me know. Today im working on some improvements on Dragon Puppy. So Iam planing it will be cca 30MB lighter, so size about 80-90 MB with same functionality and still many mess to cleanup. Menus too, Anybody know how to edit JWM menu? Searched everywhere and cant find configuration file. Thanks. For your support guys. |

The 2 main configuration files for jwm are /root/.jwmrc & /root/.jwmrc-tray. Actual items in the menu can be modified via their respective .desktop files, located in /usr/share/applications. |
