Connecting with other PCs on same router

#1 Post by VulcanPhil »

My Puppy Linux PC is wired to a NetGear router. It can use the Internet fine through that connection. But I cannot get the thing to communicate with other PCs. I can only Ping the other PCs (and the other PCs can ping this one.) The other PCs are running Windows 2000 or XP. Is that a deal breaker or does that just make me a facist. :)

I have a feeling it's a matter of settings I can't yet figure out. Your help is greatly appreciated.

What sort of communication are you looking for?
ftp, shared folders, remote desktop

By default there are no servers started in puppy though it contains tools to connect to windows shared folders.
Assuming that you have sharing set up properly on your windows machines you can use linneighborhood on the network menu or try out my new application pnethood

Just download the file, click to install then run from the network menu it should find your windows machine automatically.
