it is a great basis for compiz-fusion (also using that)
including flash was a good idea - many thanks

No John,
No rev1
I did try creating a Shard with NOP 3.01r1 + Compiz FIz but failed and ran out of time . . .
Shard is based on NOP 3.01 (strangely it says Puppy 3.00 in both NOP and Shard when you boot up . . . )
Some things to note (applies to NOP and Shard)
Geany and BurnIso2CD are available from command line but not the menu (this may apply to other programs . . .)
You have your beloved Opera of course
Shard is no big deal. Use NOP 3.1r1
add any of the sfs here
http://www.puppylinux.ca/lobster/
set this as your homepage
http://tmxxine.com/g/
apart from cosmetics, you more or less have Shard . . .

hi,
I upgrade to 3.01 from 2.17 but I have problems with fonts in Opera browser.
In NOP 2.17 evrythings was fine- fonts ware good size and all www pages look good.
But in NOP 301 and opera 9.24 I have to big fonts and www pages looks bad.
I was trying change fonts in opera:config but it wasn't help.
So I change global font size in puppy but it wasn't help :/
How I can set this same fonts and size like in nop 2.17?

Questions, please?
1. Did you choose 3.01 as a base because 4.xx is not yet available?
(I ask because 4.xx appears to be pre-stripped.)
2. Will OO Internet Suite import the Seamonkey settings or do they
have to be reset?
3. Will the OO Internet Suite import the Seamonkey Address Book and
Bookmarks and Inbox Folders & Files?
4. Could a USB stick be installed as a HDD-substitute in a laptop
without a HDD and run NOP?
5. Is USB 1.1 OK or is 2.0 highly recommended?
6. Is a 1G USB stick OK or is a larger one preferred?
7. How much RAM is recommended?

I must say that NOP is excellent. At first blush, this may be my favorite Puppy/Puplet yet! With just a little bit of customization I have a very functional and awesome-looking Puppy. So far everything works perfectly on my laptop. Great Job, Gray!

NOP
William7 : sorry, I know nothing of Opera fonts . They are fine on my machines though.
Edoc: Again, I know nothing of Oo Internet suite ???
I am a relative Linux noob myself, still learning every day, but to answer some of your questions;- NOP is only a relatively simple repackaging. I used 3.01 as a base as 4.0 wasnt even a twinkle in BK's eye at the time . A USB stick should be easily usable as a HDD substitute. I have used USB 1.1 on my sons computer OK, but USB 2.0 is much faster. I used a 512K stick for a long time, but 1 or 2Gb stick is probably better for storing your own data (not in the pupsave file). As for RAM, it does run in 128Mb but I recommend 256Mb - especially for Open Office.
Macadavy: For an MX440 you need to use the nvidia 9643 drivers.
see http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=22272
Rhino : glad you like NOP - it seems to be getting quite popular .

nVidia woes
Gray: Thanks for your help with nVidia. I downloaded NVIDIA-964301-k2.6.21.7.pet & installed it in Lighthouse Puppy using the .pet installer. It gave a dependency error message that libnvidia-tls.so.1 was missing in /usr/lib/libGL.so.96.43.01 & /usr/X11R/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/
This fouled up Xorg completely, though I was able to reboot into LHPuppy using Xvesa and noted that the nVidia configurator was there - but it only displayed the initial options menu - there was no way to actually configure anything. Xorgwizard tests at boot failed.
I am loath to edit Xwin config files manually as I don't really know what I'm doing. I'll use Dougal's first rate hardware test and post the results in that thread: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 88&t=20202
Btw - I'm writing this in Opera in NOP3.01 - I like it much!
p.s. I noted quite a number of references to nVidia cards in general and the MX440 in particular while searching for Dougal's post so will go back and check them out for helpful tips...

Welcome to my weird, wild, wonderful, wired world!
TLS
macadavy: your tls dependency problem is very strange. My sons computer has an MX440 card and I have tested the 9643 driver pet in both standard puppy 3.01 and NOP and it worked fine. The driver install should have created a /usr/lib/tls folder with the libnvidia-tls.so.1 file in it.
In my installation an ldd on libGL.so.96.43.01 shows it knows about the tls file. Perhaps the pet did not install correctly for some reason - or is LH pup subtely different in some way ?

I am enthusiastic about Puppy NOP with Xfce and Opera: now it looks
flawless and absolutely perfect.
But to gray I have two questions: I am just downloading rev 1.
1) Is it possible with rev 1, to install dotpup in the normal way, by just
clicking on it?
Or what was your intention how to do the install of dotpup files?
2) the Gxine media player is not really working: often it will hang up, and
has to be aborted by the taskmanager. Do you see any solution for this?
You know: the player comes with all codecs and browser plugins, fully
working out of the box, which is a great advantage!!

Outside the print trade, it's not unusual to see point size confused with font. However, perhaps John or someone with editorial experience can pick this one up and write a short guide because the difference is important. Mostly, both are adjustable, but not necessarily within the same application or location.
Thanks for NOP 3.01 I'm using it 99% of the time now. I only have a few notes:
Please replace xine with vlc as I have always had trouble with xine like many others. By the way, what do you write in Opera to open media files and have them play in VLC automatically? Now I download them or copy over the URL.
Please include Geany and/or Bluefish in the next version.
When I push start -> quit nothing happens most of the time. Quit on top of the screen opens the Shut Down window every time.

@Artie, re choosing which prog Opera opens a file with
IIRC...
"Tools>Preferences>Advanced>Downloads"
There you'll see a long list of file types. Select one you want to play in VLC, then click "Edit". Select "Open With Other Application". Then browse to VLC.
re replacing GXine with VLC
again, IIRC...
VLC doesn't play Quicktime. Also it includes software illegal in the US (EDIT: which might cause problems for some hosts of NOP). Much as GXine annoys me, I don't VLC can be the replacement.
