fat-free-pup-3.00 at 62MB

#1 Post by big_bass »

full puppy OS no preset browser you select one with pet-get manager the built in package manager reduced menu clutter smaller iso
build a puppy the way you want use fat-free-pup-3.00 as your base or OS
be creative

Uploaded it today to my friend ttuuxxx he will have it on his site soon
the complete removed program list will be on ttuuxxx's site

md5sum fat-free-pup-3.00.iso
1d924fa546936f99da0f67bae2eb6855 fat-free-pup-3.00.iso

PPPoe was installed and the patch fix for ADSL users

I dont use ADSL and I know that the standard version 3 has problems with PPPoe
I added e3 back as the console editor (it was a request)

*I down graded disktype 9 back to disktype 8
based on some bug reports disktype 8 worked on version 2.17

xorg is bigger in this version so thats why the iso is bigger

I built this with unleashed so there should be no problems with xvesa if you need it

keep an eye on http://www.ttuuxxx.com
he is the web host for fat-free 3

another link thanks to caneri

Fat Free 3.0 62MB is Out !!!

#3 Post by ttuuxxx »

Well guys its out, As soon as i was given the file, i uploaded it to the server and released it. hope you Have fun :) ttuuxxx

here's big basses release notes
-fixed PPPoe alias roaring penguin
-added e3 as the console editor (was a request)
have been following the bug reports and there have been reports of pmount read errors and problems with the frugal install and problems with xvesa when you remaster
in the official puppy linux version 3.00

based on this information, down graded disktype -9 for disktype- 8
because disktype -8 was working fine before
Big Bass hopes this fixes the problem He didn't modify any scripts in the process

is Xorg really always necessary?

#4 Post by oui »

bonjour

by reading this sentence:

xorg is bigger in this version so thats why the iso is bigger

the question comes:

how important is Xorg really?

I did use puppy long mounths without Xorg and I think that all owners of old PC's would be more happy to have a light weigth Puppy, really "fatfree" if it would be possible to upgrade with a good external Xorg-pet!

Got it to work on both my tower and laptop.

Played with adding FireFox and it's upgrade. Worked!

Good work,

Spent three weeks evaluating 20 different Linux Distros that could fly with the OB800CT from D to U (DSL to Ubuntu)

The Fat Free PUP is outstanding! The only one as far as I am concerned.

Firstly, I can't figure out how you got all that great software, including Xorg, into that small a package. Secondly, the Distro installs to hdd very nicely. Recovery, if necessary, via xorgwizard is very smooth.

OB800CT owners would give quite a bit to know about this Distro. Only distro to recognize out of the box the unusual mouse and video specs.

Only slight challenge was to go thru 6 different wireless cards for one to pop into play (Belkin F5D6020 v2) . Surprised the Atheros DWL-G650 did not play. None played with ndiswrapper.

And, FAST...FAST! For speed on the OB800CT, no other Distro for this PC comes close to FAT FREE.

I now have resurrected a very nice PC thanks to you all.

Beautiful!

Where do I send my donation.

24 MB are 1/2 of the need for puppy fatfree 2.17 !

we really need a fatfree without Xorg

in the old time puppy did not have Xorg

it was possible to install where needed Xorg with a pupget or dotpup.

i find it was better so ...

puppy fatfree 3.01 would be also only 40 MB!

great, super great!

Ah, a suggestion for xorg-free version in 3.01. :) That will be something to look forward to.

Or maybe someone could describe how to remove xorg from the current fat-free 3.00?

Hi,

I was just wondering if you can, and how to go about, removing jwm, rox and the puppy pinboard in fat free puppy if another window manager has been installed. Plan to use fat free to build a puppy with xfce and thunar.

Cheers

PS. Is anybody else having trouble with the link to download?

the title is xorg remover script and also I posted a fix for xvesa on that same page called a fix for xvesa

Raffy I welcome and respect your suggestion(s) and I like what you did with safe pup keep up the good work

I made fatfree with xorg even though I dont use it for the people that need it ( my friend ttuuxxx said he needs it for his monitor) so, that was a good enough reason for me.Now if some other friends need only xvesa or something else just let me know

Code: Select all

Or maybe someone could describe how to remove xorg from the current fat-free 3.00?
This is a experimental try. Would be carefull!. (Pupfat 300)
1. Copy a backup of pup_300.sfs
2. Boot with Pup301 (or other derivatives)
3. Install the Edit-SFS (author = Pizzapup) (This will be in /root/my-roxapps)
4. Use Edit-SFS to edit the pup_300.sfs file.
Now you should cd to /usr/X11R7/bin and delete two files: Xorg and xorgconfig.
Enter (change to directory) /usr/X11R7/lib and delete the xorg directory
5. Save the new edited pup_300.sfs
6. Now, use the new pup_300.sfs, boot system with this, you will config your video with Xvesa (only)
7. origin pup_300.sfs = 42 M (43368448 bytes), new pup_300.sfs = 38 M (39174144 bytes).

** You can search the Edit-SFS in this forum
Thank you

removal of standard packages

#19 Post by tinker »

What if petget were modified to allow removal of standard packages too? It isn't set up to remove anything but user-added packages. I've been reading the code for petget and I think you could prime the buildlist with ALL the packages in packages.txt as well as livepackages.txt and alienpackages.txt. Then someone like big_bass who wanted a leaner Puppy could selectively remove even standard packages using only petget.

Another way to look at it - if the universe of packages available in unleashed (installed or not) appeared in the lists, you could pick any combination you wanted.

(I've been reading Barry's blog, using Puppy, and getting tips from the forum for quite a while, but this is my first post.) I'm very happy with Puppy as delivered - currently using 3.01 on several machines. I usually only add a couple of packages.

P.S. - to Barry and all the other developers - thank you very much for all your hard work and your generosity in giving Puppy to the world.

removing standard packages - use pupbegone

#20 Post by tinker »

Hmmm, the lurking noobie's eternal dilemma - have you learned enough to make an intelligent post? In my case, not...

I knew enough to realize that removing standard packages was something that petget DIDN'T do, so I suggested it could be changed.

I didn't know enough in that pizzasgood had already done much the same thing with his petbegone. Here's the link to that thread:

As Emily Littella used to say, "Never mind...."
