Shutdown Timer |
|
Really enjoy listening to Internet Radio with Puppy. Is there a program that will automatically shutdown the computer after a set amount of time (like sleep button on clock radio)?

What is the current situation with the radio . . . I am a little confused (also caused by two fish swimming in opposite directions . . .)
I downloaded the version from the first page of this thread - that is fine for me . . . This is not a dotpup? Still being developed with the wiki calling routines (a great idea and enhancement)?
The new Xine in Puppy 1.0.5 has radio stations (more of which are working because it is a later version) but I like the idea of personalising to our own tastes with podcasts and so on . . .
This is a very pleasant and pleasing program

Well, I don't know about G2, but I haven't gotten around to messing with my updater because I figured the stream tuner dotpup was good enough. It can get all kinds of stations and stuff. You can also add your own to it.
So the way I see it is that the wiki page can continue to be added to, and used for the old radio, or you can look at it like a channel guide for the stream tuner.

Radio has stopped responding when a Shoutcast URL incl. 2020 is used.
That used to work and is still live and working on Shoutcast directly.
Anything obvious that would cause Radio to not respond to that?
I will add 248485, also Rita scanners, and see if that works.
Radio does work fine here on other addresses.

Added the new one and now both respond. Interesting.
Now Louisiana Scanner ... doesn't respond.
Oh well, all in good fun!

the Radio program downloads a playlist file using wget and opens it with gxine or xmms ... the Streamtuner program seems to do the same thing using curl
the program is a lot of crude workarounds ... i think it pretty much has to be
anything can change ... the playlist url can change, or the station may not exist any more
often, the website may want you to go to their website and look at their ads, and may not want you connecting directly, and they might do something to deliberately stop it from working

Gxine Visualization |
|
probably a ridiculously easy question, but couldn't find where to set the default visualization (want to set it to "none" instead of current "goom"). Thought it would be in preferences menu item, but couldn't find it. Saw a section in config file that sets that, but all the lines are commented out (#) so wasn't sure where current default of "goom" was coming from...

you can set visualizations to None in gxine options
File, Preferences, Gui tab
set Experience level to Master of the Known Universe
click the Post_Plugins tab in the Gui tab
set Audio_Visualization to None

Gxine Visualization |

Thanks GuestToo! I was on the right track with preferences but my modesty kept me from assuming the role of "Master of the known Universe"...

When I open gxine and go to File, Preferences, there is no Gui tab.
Which version are you running, please?
I always seem to have the non-standard situation!
Thanks! doc

i'm running Gxine 0.4.8
http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=2294
i think there must be a gui tab
even if it's got a different name
click File, Preferences
it's the left-most tab
the one where you can set the Experience Level to Master of the Known Universe

I just wanted to use gmplayer instead of gxine to play jazzradio, but it did not work.
So I made a dotpup
I just tested it with jazzradio and SwissGroove, so no idea, if it works with the rest.
Install, and run "setup-radio3" from the Dotpups-menue.
Now you can choose, if you want to use gxine or gmplayer for Radio3.
The Dotpup includes avisynth.dll (2.0.5) from http://www.avisynth.org/ , as mplayer refused to play without it.
Download (143 kb):
http://noforum.de/dotpups/radio3mplayer.pup
---
Explanation:
It adds a script /usr/local/bin/radio3mplayer
| Code: | #!/bin/sh
gmplayer -playlist $1 |
Then it replaces
/root/my-roxapps/Radio3/AppRun2
with a file, where I replaced "gxine" with "radio3mplayer".
Or with the original AppRun2 if you choose gxine.

This is really kinda exciting!
For those of us stuck with rural dial-up, can this setup download an entire audio file and then play it like a podcast? (It's nearly impossible to listen to the stuttery streaming audio I get on XPs media player, and it won't store the whole thing either.)
