Muppy by default uses dhcp to find a network automatically.
I think with fixed values, you must deactivate that.

edit the file:
/etc/rc.d/rc.muppy-network

replace:
autoconnect=YES
with:
autoconnect=NO

Maybe the wizard now remembers your settings.
Does that work?

Hello,
I was very content unsing Muppy Linux on an old Notebook from 1998, starting from CD. In May 2007, the old CD was broken and full of scatches. No problem, I burnt a new one. Spoken more exactly: I burnt about five new CDs meanwhile, trying about 4 new downloads since May. The result was the same all the times: CRC-error on the Notebook, Can't start CD on the large computer. Arde the informations to be downloaded ok?

Subject description: WIFI profile saved but not reused on next boot

Hi,
Muppy 107.
Regarding WIFI in MUPPY the profile sets up and works when use this profile button is pressed. However the profile is not used on next reboot even when this is selected.
Also had to add modprobe ndiswrapper in rc local to load the driver.
Any thoughts?

Regards
Michael

edit /etc/rc.d/rc-muppy-network

set:
autoconnect=yes
to:
autoconnect=no

You also might add custom commands there, but I think deactivating autoconnection should be sufficient.

PostPosted: Mon 22 Oct 2007, 19:42    Post subject: can't install nvidia-drivers and some KDE-apps not working

hi there!

i just installed muppy for the first time, and have 2 big problems:

1) when i open the 3DCC menu, select the nvidia-drivers an click "OK" - nothing happens...

is there any other way to install the nvidia-drivers?

2) some of the kde-apps (k3b for example) seem to be missing.

here is what i did to install muppy: i first installed puppy from the muppy-cd and then did an upgrade to muppy.

i did this, because installing muppy caused some kernel-panic in the beginning.

could this be realated to k3b missing?

any help is welcome!

Wink

thanks,

michael

Bad news: you will have to start over:(
Good News: instructions for hd install are here

hope that gets you up and running as muppy is great

something like this happened to me, too. And i think it's only a problem that occurs with a "Normal, full HDD" installation. On my laptop and the desktop i got an init-failure. I fixed it with a installation in two steps. And it doesn't depend on ram- or diskspace. Sad Question

Try this:
Wipe your hdd to get rid of this crappy stuff on it. You can make this with an gparted-iso or within Muppy from CD. I installed as for the swap a 500MB partition at first, that became hda1. Because that is the fastest parted of a hdd. And than the primary linux-part, what became hda2. Remember the boot flag for hda2

Boot Muppy and answer the question for all applications with NO.

When Muppy is running make the first NORMAL installation. After the install is finished and grub is already installed (my choice is always "in MBR"), reboot. Maybe you will try a test-boot if it runs ok.

If it runs fine, than run Muppy from CD a second time. But this time answer the question for all applications with YES. When it runs, call the Universal Puppy installer a second time. It will ask you if like to do either an "Upgrade" or "Wipe" the disk. Choose UPGRADE. It will copy only the missing, but nice stuff like themes and everything. You can close the grubinstaller from the updatescript because it is already installed from the first time.

I have seen, when i made the first misleaded installation after booting from CD, that nearly half of the needed directories where missing. Even the rc.d directory in /etc, so than i knew why i got the init-failure, because their was neither an init-file nor a directory.

And now hopefully your Muppy is running, enjoy it. Laughing

Greetings from Germany
Uwe
