MU, did you bundle the editor and file manager together in the same dotpup because they require the same library of dependencies or something? :?

yes.

The library is 3.3 MB, adie 150 kb, and xfe 230 kb.

XFE will run only with this library-version.
XFE oriiginally has an additional texteditor, but it is of very bad quality, so I took the fox-editor adie.

These together are one of the first things I install together on a new machine, as they build a good team.

Do you think it would be better to make seperate dotpups?

Very interesting
What advantage does this file manager have for you? Is it that (it seems) very much more powerful than uXplor (that comes with Puppy)?

It is good to have new choices.
Will be interesting how others get on with this program.
:)

I am quite happy with Rox. Is that unfamiliar or inadequate for your requirements?

Many thanks for providing this choice.

Hi Lobster,

I get somewhat irritated by all those windows popping up with rox, and miss the tree-structure.

in Xfe I have the 2 file-panels always at the same position, and can navigate very fast using the tree on the left.

As I often copy files between different partitions, I think this is quite comfortable.

I also like to zip (tar) complete folders with a single right-click.
Maybe I just got used to this kind of program, because I used the Windows-Commander (now renamed to total commander) for many years, but always was missing the tree from Explorer.

Greetings, Mark

Hi Mark

Did that but the progs need an extra library?
got the following message when running from rxvt
# ./xfe
./xfe: error while loading shared libraries: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared obje ct file: No such file or directory
# ./adie
./adie: error while loading shared libraries: libGLU.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Lobster,

yes :?

I will upload a re-compiled version without these dependencies in some hours.

I have to finish Dotpup-wizard 02 first, that can handle files in /usr/lib and /root

What about (MC) Midnight Commander? I think it requires fewer future-hassle-
inevitable dependencies.

I think pizzasgood posted a dotpup for that. F2 handles the archiving.

What's missing? doc

Edoc,
I like to work with the mouse, and MC doesn't have a tree-panel.

I uploaded all files again.

Now they are smaller, and do not need LibGL/GLU any more.

They will add Menue-Entries to your Desktop automatically.

Lobster,

I think you missed the first download that has the libraries needed?

Good to hear, that there seem to be no serious bugs.

Updated XFileExplorer and the imageviewer to 0.88.

Mainly Bugfixes.
New: Language-support (automatic depending on your $LANG -environment variable).
New: the "Tree + 2 panel" -view -Button is available again.

This is based on the Debian-Packages.

I downloaded and installed the dotpups for the fox libraries w/ shutterbug, adie, xfe, xfi. Restarted my computer. Adie works. Love Shutterbug. Xfe and Xfi don't seem to be working. When I click on the icon for either one of them nothing happens. I got the dotpops through the dotpup packager. Did I do something wrong?

Please advise. Thank you.

Please run in a Console the comand:
ldd /usr/bin/xfe

What for a result do you get?
Interesting are just lines that contain "not found".

Thanks its now working

Mark, found I was missing the library libstdc++.so.6. Installed it and now Xfe is working perfectly. Thought I had all the libraries, dumb, huh? Guess I should have checked first, but still being new to Linux, I'm still making a lot of mistakes. BTW, what is the command "ldd?" Does it just check for library dependencies? Just curious.

Thanks again.

The greatest feature of Xfe is the speed. I have tried MANY filemanagers to find a speedy one.

Xfe renders my directory with 18132 files in few seconds. ROX or other filemanagers I have tried take their time.

I do not like the size of libfox, so a small and fast alternative is welcome.

I updated the Xfile-explorer.
The icon in the JWM-menu is small now, and I added the dotpup-extractor/installer (runs dotpuprox.sh or extracts to a temporary folder with a doubleclick).
