I'm not using lighthouse pup but its been a problem since 2.15CE came out.
Do you use a usb mouse?
i have nforce integrated graphics which i'm guessing is the problem. If i try to run with xvesa, i don't get a pointer at all, if i use xorg i get one but it disappears if the screen blanks for a while!

Hello,
Can you reboot, then PM me your /tmp/xerrs.log file after the cursor disappears? I know it might me tricky not being able to see what you are clicking on... I haven't seen this before. If I could reproduce this or see an error in the log maybe I can fix it. Maybe posting as an attachment here would work.

sometimes the cursor isnt there after i boot up but it always disappears after i restart x. i started playing around on puppy 2.15ce and noticed that the same problem results after restarting x but has not happened on boot up. i will post xerr.logs for both circumstances on lighthouse and the one for puppy ce. i also plan on running a different computer to see if the problem is caused by my hardware. i will also post hardware of both machines . thank you very much for all help past present and future.

Hmm, you might focus on Puppy 2.15CE if the mouse pointer is disappearing on it also, because there is a larger user base on it and more brilliant minds out there to figure this out Wink Still I will try to help if I can whether it's Lighthouse or not. Very curious!

May or may not be related: there are a few instructions in /root/.xinitrc of Lighthouse that fix my offset LCD display but cause problems for Xvesa resolution. They will be disabled for the next beta of Lighthouse. So there are some things that load at startup in Lighthouse even in LiveCD that don't in official Puppy, though I'm paring these down to a minimum.

I just ran across this similar thread, might want to watch it also:
www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=20128

Keep us updated, please.
-Thanks, TazOC

i found out that i need to learn how to navigate with a keyboard it was fun though. sorry it took so long to get this log posted. this was taken from my current setup. i am also having this problem with 2.17. i know i said i would post a couple different logs but im kinda lazy, right now my other computer is scattered all over my room. i will post them if you request, im hoping this will provide you with the information you need. also sometimes the screen that pops up at start leaves a little blue box behind about the size of an icon. this has only happened in lighthouse.

this is errlog of my system after i restarted window manager
no cursor.

PostPosted: Tue 07 Aug 2007, 20:03    Post subject: Lost mouse pointer

Hi, thank you for the /tmp/xerrs.log and update. Can you select and paste the following lines into a terminal window, please?
Code:
cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf | grep 'Name'
cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf | grep 'Driver' | grep -v '###'
The resulting lines from /etc/X11/xorg.conf should indicate what display adapter and display driver is installed.

Let me sum up what I think you've found so far:
Lost mouse pointer, PS/2 mouse, usually after restarting X. Sometimes a reboot helps, sometimes not. Observed on one PC in Puppy 2.15CE, LighthousePup 215 Beta4 and Puppy 2.17.

This line seems to coincide with lost pointer:
Code:
GLib-WARNING **: Pƒ\ùÿÿéþÿÿÇE°(): unable to handle positional parameters (%n$), G_GNUC_PRETTY_FUNCTION
I'm not familiar with Glib warnings, but it could be related. I googled around for that Glib error but found nothing helpful for me.

I would try to narrow down the problem to a certain configuration, if possible, I recommend 2.15CE, 2.16, the newly released 'bugfixed' 2.17.1 or even grafpup linux www.grafpup.org, because you'll find more puppians familiar with them. If you have any other working mice or display cards to swap in, might be interesting. If you can find a combination of hardware and OS/puppy setup on that PC that does NOT exhibit the problem, even on restarting X, that would help. At this point I have no idea whether the problem is hardware, software, kernel, puppy or configuration/drivers.

ihaveacomputer,
The blue box is wmfire, an icedock cpu monitor that sometimes refuses to dock. When docked it shows flames relative to CPU activity. Usually Start Menu|Desktop|Muppy-icedock will restart Icedock and temporarily fix wmfire.

Here's how to enable/disable any of the dockapps, including wmfire:

Start Menu|Desktop|LookAndFeel|Muppy-icedock-wizard|dockapps|choose dockapps. De-select wmfire. OK to apply, Muppy Icedock will stop and after some time, restart with the new configuration. When finished, click cancel.
Note: wmtemp and wmpower aren't supported on some systems, so you may want to de-select those as well.

Subject description: nvidia driver problem

This is what I found in the KDE Linux list:.

I added that line and have not had the problem since
