Tried to do a full install on internal IDE hard drive
which has 3 partitions hda1-ntfs hda2-ext3 hda3-ext2
but universal installer only can see hda1 the ntfs partition,
puppy mounter can see all partitions.

From a previous post i found a puppyinstaller.gz which i downloaded and run and that seems to recognise all partitions

Have included that puppyinstaller.gz here if anybody else having trouble

Sorry Barry Embarassed I am not sure from which version the file came from
I remember having the same problem with puppy 2.16 and i found this file whilst looking for a solution within the puppy forum.
I do remember that there was also talk of probedisk and probepart having to be updated.

I examined that one you posted, it is a version posted by Dougal, but not suitable for 2.17 as-is as it is designed for 2.16+ using initramfs.

Could you try this, let me know if it sees all your partitions:
(after gunzip, you may have to set its execute attribute)

I'm having a similar problem; Puppy 2.17's not recognising the partition my .sfs file is on (I'm trying to do what I believe is a "frugal install"). I don't have the same problem with my usual version of Puppy, Pizzapup.

Thanks Barry, i have tried the new installer you have posted but unfortunately it does not recognise the partitions either eventhough that
fdisk, cfdisk, and mounter all find them without trouble.

To throw a bit of a spanner in the works, i tried 2.17 in my old laptop which has a similar setup hda1=ntfs hda2=ext2(puppy2.15) hda3=ext2(vectorlinux) hda4=swap and got completely different results.
Puppy 2.17 picked all partitions except hda2 which had a pre exiting version of puppy on it. I tried your new installer but that didnt seem to help. So i reformatted the 2 ext2 partitions to ext3 and rebooted and then presto, bingo, the stock standard puppy 2.17 universal installer recognised all the partitions.

sh-3.00# test-eide
/dev/hdc - cdrom - LITE-ON COMBO SOHC-4832K
/dev/hda - disk - ST38410A
sh-3.00# cat /proc/partitions
major minor #blocks name

Sorry, still got the same problem. I know it's something to do with 2.17 since I can use 2.14 and 2.15 CE without any difficulty (not to mention PizzaPup, my usual one). I'm in 2.14 at the moment.

To be honest, I can't even boot 2.17, never mind install from it at present.
It's not the end for me and Puppy since 2.14 and PizzaPup both work well, but it may mean there's something that needs fixing.
