imho, though there are some valid cons against the paw print, at this point it stills strikes the right balance of considerations.

1) it looks great and professional
2) has some history with puppy already
3) there is a possibility of color play with the logo eg grafpup
4) And on days when i feel like reading/looking deeper into the logo i can actually imagine a group of people gathering around in the paw print logo... reminds me of the puppy community ;)

I think that the puppy paw is perfect. I think we should try to avoid using the 'face' of a dog, I just don't think an OS with a cute dog's face on it is going to appeal to any serious users. The paw, on the other hand, it what I have on my taskbar - it's definately MY logo of choice. It's simple, professional, uncluttered, easily reproducable and instantly recognisable. And the other benefit of the Paw is that it looks great in any combination of colours. A green dog's face would just look, well, childish and odd.

That's just my opinion.

I really like the paw logo, as it has a kind of double message, like dasch pointed out. One the one hand its a puppy paw, & the other it is like a bunch of people together (representing the friendly community that PL has.) I really like this idea. On the other hand though, it isn't the most original of the logos in this topic, but I definitely think something professional, minimal yet striking would serve best.

Okay, the paw is my second favorite. Small footprint implied and all...

My 2c is the logo should be ~ loosely based on (but would be my first pick regardless..)the original chiwawa pooch named puppy, with or without the flower. :D

I'd luuv to see some more submissions..

My daughter is quite the artsy fartsy type & I'm trying to get her to draw something up (have to talk to her right.. ) based on the original pix(s) & a few variants that have shown up already in this thread & the other one.

The majority seem to prefer the rasterpax type of logo, but I'm still not happy with its look, so I tried to revamp it a little. What do you guys think?

...and another take on the fancier logo style.

maybe a crisp drop shadow behind the paw to make it jump out a bit?

or perhaps the same blur type as behind the text?

i think i like that one :-)

Very nice Warren 8)

I prefer the Puppy to the paw (paw is used a lot and we are not Paw Linux)

There was a time when the Puppy logo had red-eyes (what was he on?)

then he got cute

then we had

How about the word "Puppy" where the "P" is the outline of a dog's head?

The paw makes an excellent desktop (it is a backround image and does not distract). In other words it suggests a Puppy, without being direct.
Show people a paw and it will suggest "paw", "print", "cat", "dog" etc.

Show people a Puppy and they will think Puppy

A Puppy represents Puppy and is therefore a brand / logo etc that is part of our evolution.

It says Puppy. It is Puppy.

Put "puppy" into google - click on images - what do you get? I only saw one seagull . . . no pause for paws

I agree with Lobster's ideas. The logo has to be easily identifiable.
Just one other thing, could you please make the toned backdrop slightly lighter, so that the face or pawprint 'jumps out' a bit more. For those of us less young than we used to be, a bit of contrast works wonder for the old peepers.

I think we need to go away from having the words Puppy Linux, or at least make them not so prominent. I feel we should have a symbol/logo that can be recognised no matter where it is. Again think Ubuntu. Or even the Pardus logo http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=pardus?

I tend to think IBM, Microsoft, Dell, Apple, etc. where the background amplified
the name vs trying to guess what is the product from the logo alone.

It is one thing to have tons of money to market a logo and to create brand
awareness but where Puppy is a niche distro it may be that Puppy and Linux
need to be primary and the background make the name attractive to the eye.

Just a thought ...

The classic paw print really is perfect.
It is so simple and yet it looks so good. It works well when really small (eg start button), but also when really big. It has been incorporated into all sorts of superb wallpapers (even for black themes!), and can be customised really well for this purpose.
It is abstract enough, but not too abstract - you can instantly see what it is.
It looks professional, and I don't think it is really an issue looking like Gnome, or not clearly belonging to a puppy rather than a cat.
It is already seen all over the Puppy forum and elsewhere.

How many people are there that would seriously dislike the paw logo? Very few I suspect, whereas I think a significant proportion of the community would dislike most of the others in this thread. Most of them are just too abstract ("What actually is that?"), and I think a lot of people would consider many of them to just look silly.

I also really like the puppy with flower (the one in Lobster's post with the big ears and caption), but it is nowhere near as versatile, and I like Rastapax's ones too, but don't really think they are as suitable for a logo.
This new puppy in a circle is all right, but again I don't think it is nearly as versatile, and it just doesn't look as classy.

Go for the paw!

Thanks tahaselim. Here are some variations of my abstrac chihuahua.
I made them slightly slanted and unsymmetrical to look more dynamic.
Upright and symmetric looks so stiff.

- Red filling on black (see also the menu button at bottom left) - for eob whose been asking for a red, white, and black theme. (http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 4&start=29)
- On blue (transparent filling)
- On Puppy 2.16 light blue (for those prefers light colors, like WhoDo?)
- On Puppy 2.16 light blue (with blue filling)
- On Ubuntu's light brown (transparent filling)
- On Ubuntu's light brown (brown filling)
- On Puppy's sky background (transparent filling)

To Whodo: here are Vicent's outlines, with and without shading, as blue buttons.

Anyway, I really like afgs' works, especially the last one. I think it would be a perfect logo; clean, dynamic and professional looking; looks good in rounds or squares; even on menu button. Very different from any other distro logos. Very impressive. Keeps the good work.

Can I ask you (afgs) to make a version with the logo in monochrome without shading. I would like to see it as outline (for printing reason). I bet it would still look as nice.
