No Sound on Mecer M185 with ESS 1869 (2.15ce, 109ce 2.02ce)

#1 Post by ecomoney »

Hi, Ive been asked by a friend who does a karaoke show to set up her laptop. Im having problems with the sound. The full specs of the laptop can be found here

http://ads.easyinfo.co.za/htm/custom/me ... /m185.html

When I run the ALSA wizard the pci sound doesnt work, but it does pick up the ESS1869 (as listed) using the ESS18xx driver, but when the sample sound plays (the barks) it just hangs the wizard.

Ive heard that ISA sound can be problematic in later versions of puppy (a shame because ISA sound cards are pretty good as speakers can often be directly connected to them).

Heres some other links to posts around the forum about these issues.

Have tried 2.15ce, 109ce 2.02ce and barelypup but no joy with any of them.

Here is the end of my modprobe.conf (from the 2.02ce install, but their all the same)

Code: Select all

# --- BEGIN: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
# --- ALSACONF verion 1.0.8 ---
alias snd-card-0 snd-es18xx
alias sound-slot-0 snd-es18xx
options snd-es18xx isapnp=0 dma1=1 dma2=5 irq=5
# --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
Thanks in advance
