Ok, ok. That's about the 4th or 5th request for xpde to be compiled for Puppy. I have downloaded the tarball and I'll have a look at it to see whether there are a mountain of dependencies or not and let you know.

Cheers

made a pet. ran it.

only thing that worked was xterm.

did get it to load by moding startxpde like this:

Code: Select all

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/X11R7/bin
if test -n $HOME/.xpde; then
  cp -r /usr/X11R7/bin/defaultdesktop $HOME/.xpde
fi
/usr/X11R7/bin/xpde

JD, could you post your .pet please? I installed 0.4.2 and got it to bring up the taskbar and start menu but there was no background no matter what I tried to do.

XPDE is an admirable project but it's pretty lame in the execution from what I could see on the XPDE forums.

Nope. Downloaded it, compiled it, ran it and loaded it but it did nothing useful, just as John Doe reported. What's more it crashed my Xserver in the bargain.

I already have a blue XP theme for IceWM that actually works. The only difference is in the xpde double first level menu, XP style, which I can't duplicate in IceWM under Xdg menus ... yet. I'll continue to look at that, but the rest of it isn't yet mature enough to be useful IMHO. Sorry.

Here's the best I can do at the moment using IceWM theming. It needs tweaking, but it's getting closer. Still no cigar though.

Edit: Updated to ensure correct extract location

Edit2: Updated for closer match to xpde colors

Thanks, Mark. Repackaged and reuploaded. Should be ok now.

Edit: Updated again for better color match. See above for new download.
