HP Deskjet D1360 install in Linux Puppy

#1 Post by drkchaudhry »

In just about two weeks I am deep into linux. I have overcome teething problems except that I have been denied printing.
1. I successfully installed CUPS and configured PPD file correctly.
2. I failed to understand getprinterid.pl script or locate the device string.
3. I installed python 2.4.2
sh python ENTER
displays python version and date. hplip says python devel missing
4. I attempted to install lsb several times. That also is stated to be missing.
Would someone explain me step by step keeping in mind that I had no links with linux before current month?
Incidently, LinuxPuppy2.16 iso file can be downloaded from http://ussupermall.net/cd/software/puppy216.iso . I hope to make wine pups and more files available.

1. I think the printer D1360 is correctly installed, using 3920 PPD but with 1 problem :-
D1360 (Default Printer) "Network host '127.0.0.1' is busy; will retry in 30 seconds..."
I do not know correct device url to replace http://127.0.0.1/ipp

2. Thanks for MOST valuable information that I do not have to chase python and lsb

3. It is a local printer dedicated to my computer. Why should I need device url and lan connection?

In CUPS Add Printer USB port option was missing. I installed on lpt#1.
Opened printer.conf file and modified
Device URI: /proc/bus/usb/devices in place of PARALLEL : /dev/lp0
Test print error message :-
D1360 "/usr/lib/cups/backend//proc/bus/usb/devices failed"

i don't know why cups isn't allowing you use of usb...maybe it's corrupted? try dloading this cups to /root ( 19M dload):

http://puppyfiles.org/dotpupsde/dotpups ... l-v0.3.pup

if you have the .ppd file in /root when you click on the cups .pup file, it will "grab" that .ppd
file & recognise that printer when you start the browser.

I had the pup file already in my computer. A click and some more configured the printer wonderfully. However, it is not printing and also there is no error message.
I had learnt before that deskjet D1360 and 3920 accept deskjet 3320 driver. The pup had only deskjet 3320. I have ppd files for D1300 series and 3920. I shall try to use these two files.
Thanks for the most useful post.
What a wonderful help!
