Ok.." houston we have a problem" Smile

I dragged the screen lock icon back to the desktop no problem but when I rebooted I saw a messge saying that the "pinboard has been updated to XML" or such like and I ended up with a grey background with no Icons.

The taskbar remained/menus remained.
Now Ive reinstated my background image but still missing Icons..is there any way to get the Icons back ?

Ok I got my Icons back...I took a risk and simply reinstalled Ezpup over the top of the existing.

Wont try moving the screen lock back to the desktop for a bit.

More info on how it happened...last night I shutdown Puppy for the night now today when I first booted I couldnt see the Xlock Icon so I again dragged it to the desktop and then rebooted to see if this time I could see it. Perhaps this action was somehow what caused the PuppyPin file to reset and become empty.

Most probably the Xlock Icon was hiding behind the help Icon when I first rebooted as you have found.

At the moment Ive dragged it back to desktop and after rebooting found it also hiding behind the help Icon.

Question what is making the Xlock Icon goto the same position on the desktop as the help Icon at every boot..

I like these problems..as they are not major, yet they help me learn more about puppy Smile

hey whodo could you put conky or torsmo in the next EZpup with a configuration gui maybe set to the defaults from meanpup I miss haveing my stats displayed on my desktop. the freemem applet doesn't always work correctly anyway (in my case) I wonder if conky works in beryl? I don't know how to make conky transparent either.

I made a back up and also proceeded to first move the help Icon.
Then I rebooted. All's well Help Icon stayed where I put it.

I then moved the Xlock Icon over to the left side. Rebooted
Suddenly all left side Icons were now on right side.

So I moved Xlock over to lower right side this time and again rebooted. This time all is well and that's where I want it so thats where it will stay !

I realised that for at least the first time that Xlock was put back on the desktop and rebooted it tried to go back to where it used to be as you eluded to.

Im still a happy chappy, just upgraded my ancient Laptop to 2.16.1 and its running Ezpup of course Smile

leave conky/torsmo off by default and add a simple gui like for icewm or maybe add an option to turn it on or off in the icewm manager itself although that option might be a little obscure or possibly over reach the capabilities of the icewm config gui.

i don't think there is an easy way to deal with desktop icons ... the icons were intended to be dragged to a convenient place on the desktop ... automatic placement of the icons would not be easy, it would be necessary to write software that reads the PuppyPin xml file, makes sense out of the text, figures out the desktop resolution, checks the coordinates of each icon and changes them if necessary, then writes back the configuration changes to the PuppyPin file, if necessary

personally, i backup my PuppyPin file so i can easily restore it, and i also can use alternate desktops, like this:

I believe releasing EZpup quartely as a 100% .pet enhancement makes it far more maintainable, flexible and useful then an ISO release based around a particular Puppy version.

EZpup plus optional sfs would make some sense?
A flexible sfs downloader of sfs in Ezpup?

With the OO sfs download, it would have the power of PuppyProEZ
The developers sfs would make it DevPupEZ and so on . . .

Many of the background images are huge (600k where Puppy would use 60k)

Perhaps EzPup could come with small backgrounds with an option to download different collections?
