EZpup - June 2007 Edition

#1 Post by WhoDo »

I've just uploaded the June 2007 edition of EZpup.

MU has mirrored here:
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/WindowManagers/

and PkaG has mirrored here:
http://www.pkagfiles.net/puppy-files/

Changes to the June 2007 edition include:
  • All new VistaBlack_IV default theme modified for Puppy
    New MIME-types for Open Office
    Almond skins for xmms player
Fix for IceWM Default theme - icedesert
Minor bug fixes for icons and MIME-types
Image

I expect to release EZpup updates quarterly from now on, and I am taking requests for inclusion in the September edition.

I am also wondering if there would be interest in an EZpup-Lite version, restricted to my personal choices of themes, icons, etc. to save on size.

Enjoy.

:)

this is my second attempt to run and install - just wanted to post this message before rebooting

hope it helps

update

Yep it worked despite the error messages - I think I was low on memory hence the first fail - gonna have a look now - many thanks :)

Also if I reboot X server, I just get a blank screen (I then have to turn off the computer) Anyone else get this?

Those error messages are normal. PETget finds those missing dependencies but they have nothing to do with what EZpup installs, so you can safely ignore them.

Low memory will also affect the ability of your Xserver to boot. I don't know if that's your problem, but that's just FWIW.

Cheers

EZpup lite

#4 Post by raffy »

Another aspect of being "lite" is having a JWM-only and IceWM-only packages. Will that make sense?

Yes, it does. In that case the JWM-only version would be very small, since JWM is already in Puppy by default.

when adding .sfs files, the icons on desktop change back to normal icons, can this be fixed instead of reinstalling EZ-pup?

WhoDo,

You really spoil us !! Nice work !!
BTW - I tried to install this on top of the previous EZpup, to see how much space it would take. To my surprise, it only takes additional 2 MB (perhaps for the desktop backgrounds).
So - for those contemplating to "upgrade" from the previous EZpup - go ahead and do it, it will NOT consume another 65MB of space.

cheers!

(EDIT:
I prefer to maintain standard EZpup rather than -lite version. I found that the added functionality of updated Rox and IceWm to be very useful. Of course the artwork itself is excellent, but with added functionality it is better !

In fact - I would prefer the 2.15CE additional "bells-and-whistles" (that is not part of the SFS) be incorporated in EZpup - so that I can upgrade to 2.16

Make a backup copy of your /root/Choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin file before installing.

Otherwise you can use a console to run pet2tgz on the EZpup.pet file and it will be converted to a .tgz file that you can click on to extract whatever individual files you need. Just remember that it will take a LONG time to extract because of its expanded size.

Finally, if all that is too complex, just right click on the icon and pick up the original from /usr/share/midi-icons, unless the sfs file has overwritten the originals.

Hope that helps.

Well, let me know specifically WHICH "bells-and-whistles" in particular and I'll see what will be possible, if not for the September edition then possibly for Christmas.

Thanks !

Will document and get back to you.

Some people would think otherwise though - as the packages are available in dotpups.de anyway :)

Perhaps, but so is most of what is already in EZpup. The point is to put it all in one package so people don't have to go hunting around for lots of little dotpups and dotpets to get the interface experience they want.

Glad you like it, ohyes. I'm already working on the September 07 edition, which will have interchangeable cursor and desktop icon themes, among other things. If you have any requests in the look-and-feel department let me know.

Cursor choices is exactly what I was gonna suggest ! Thx

The only other I can think of for now is minor..noticed the desktop 'lock' Icon has gone since Ezpup upgrade, is their a way to make it an optional comeback

Cheers

Yep. It's not deleted, just not on the desktop. You can get it back by navigating to /usr/local/apps and dragging it back to the desktop.

Hope that helps.

Ok.." houston we have a problem" :)

I dragged the screen lock icon back to the desktop no problem but when I rebooted I saw a messge saying that the "pinboard has been updated to XML" or such like and I ended up with a grey background with no Icons.

The taskbar remained/menus remained.
Now Ive reinstated my background image but still missing Icons..is there any way to get the Icons back ?

Cheers

Ok I got my Icons back...I took a risk and simply reinstalled Ezpup over the top of the existing.

Wont try moving the screen lock back to the desktop for a bit.

Ok, before you try this one again, make a copy of your PuppyPin file in /root/Choices/ROX-filer. Call it PuppyPin-alt for example. Then if it crashes again, just copy your backup to PuppyPin and restart X from the menu under Window Manager.

I have no idea why that would happen. I tried to duplicate it on my system without success. I dragged the Xlock to the desktop, rebooted and when it came back up I couldn't see the Xlock icon. I looked in PuppyPin and it was there, but hidden right behind the Help question mark icon. I moved that icon and Xlock became visible. No errors to speak of. Let me know how you go, when you give it another attempt.

Cheers
