TEENpup 2.0.0 is here! 272mb iso

#1 Post by john biles »

Hello Everyone,
This has been a long journey to create TEENpup 2.0.0 and all going well, should be ready for download in a few days.
I know that not everyone's PC will run it and I say sorry now. But I believe that extra's it brings to a Puppy based Distro are worth it for those user's who's PC will support it.
I love the freedom Puppy brings to the way I do things on my PC.
I just want to be able to do more things with my PC, but still with that Puppy feel.
I could save myself alot of time and just run Ubuntu, Mepis, Mandriva etc etc, but once you've experienced that Puppy feel, there's no going back.

So as pizzasgood says, I but it for me first and for other user's second.

Just be aware now that there's so many goodies hidden inside TEENpup 2.0.0 that I recommend you forget the iso size and download it and see for yourself what it will do.

Here's a screenshot using JWM take alook at the menu bar

Well said.

The same goes for the so called
" Perfect Desktop - PCLinuxOS 2007 "
runs like a slug...albeit a pretty one.

Your first Teen Pup blew it away.

Good luck...and get it right..keep it fast..otherwise the
above Distro lovers will be posting me packets of Defender snail pellets
for my ungracious comments above.

Hello georges and John Doe,
MU will host TEENpup 2.0.0 like he does for TEENpup 1.0.0 and as stated TEENpup 2.0.0 will be ready in a few days.

JWM and ICEWM Window Managers are both included in TEENpup 2.0.0

Hello georges,
MU's site that hosts TEENpup has exceded its bandwith limit for the month of May.
Hopefully you will be able to download TEENpup in a couple of days time.
As for your Hardware, all I can say is try TEENpup in your PC. It works on my Father's old Pentium lll 733Mhz laptop with 188mb's of ram.

Hello John
Thanks for your reply ! I've tryed to download but got : Bandwidth Limit Exceeded !! And didn't know why ! Now I know and will way until start of June to download TEENpup 2.0 ! The thing is that I'm receiving old PC's (PII) from many people just to repair and upgrade them (ethernet, memory etc...) to give to children that cannot aford a computer !! I found the puppy linux very helpfull for this purpose and this software is very nice BUT they wanted more Teen stuff and you gave it with your TEENpup package !
Thank you for that and I hope it will work nice on PII 400 with 128M memory

Hello georges,
I think you will have more chance of TEENpup working on your PC with version 1.0.0 as there is alot of KDE in TEENpup 2.0.0 which may upset your PC. Testing both will give you the answer. :D

Just started downloading TeenPup 2.0. Will let you know how it goes. Many thanks for the release!

It seems Teenpup 2.0 has several forums. Can we have just one? I was able to download the iso when I was looking around for NOP at pkgfiles. It was also there I was able to find this forum.

Regards.

8) Is good

Great default (IceVista) Window Manager
Great addictive games . . . . must be strong . . . must resist . . . must not play . . . (had to press Q to get out) when I tried to restart X I got a blank screen and had to reboot (was booting with puppy pfix=ram)

I like Konqueror in there (without KDE??) and other stuff such as Kpaint which seems very generic

OK gonna have to play now :)
Great fun for teens of all ages. Good job!

Make sure you update any links on the wiki and announce on wiki community news.
If not up to it I will do it . . .

This has all the Puppy attributes (make sure you have the required ram (280MB is it?) Speed, Fun and Freedom to play . . .

Woof woof
Puppy Raspup 8.2Final 8)

Hello Everyone,
In my rush to get TEENpup2.0.0 out, a bug has appeared already.

There is a problem with the Menu in TEENpup2.0.0 which doesn't effect it while running from the Live CD.
Upon installing TEENpup2.0.0 to your Hard Drive and installing more Packages, the Menu may revert to an earlier ugly version with alot of the Apps missing. to bring back the correct menu open "Home" and unhide the hidden files by clicking on the "EYE". Now open the folder .icewm and create a folder call "Menubackup" and copy the backup or old menu to that folder. Now rename that old menu to "menu" and overwrite the current menu. This will bring back TEENpup's correct menu. You will need to do the same for the jwm menu as well which you will find under "Home" (root) as well.
Sorry about this bug as it was only discovered after TEENpup2.0.0 was released.

WhoDo has informed me that the way that TEENpup2.0.0 was created by not installed extra apps using normal Dotpups/pets has created the problem. some of the Apps included in TEENpup2.0.0 aren't included in other Puppy Derivatives and the menu was created manually by me.

Please don't let this put you off trying TEENpup2.0.0 as it still has alot to offer. When a Fix has been worked out, I will let you know.

Update 1st June 2007: Well it looks like the changes made to the menu structure eg "xdg" in puppy 2.14 on which TEENpup2.0.0 is based over the old menu that was used in puppy 2.10 on which TEENpup1.0.0 was based has caused the problem.
It looks like the problem is fixable, but time consuming.
Will provide the fix as soon as I can.

similar problem

#20 Post by raffy »

John, I have a similar problem in net-booting 2.16. My changed JWM menu appears in the USB boot but not in the net boot. It's good am not alone with that problem. :) Still learning the menu tricks of 2.14-2.16.
