Subject description: To support newer m/b

Just upgraded mobo, keeping the old harddisk. Everything else works beautifully w/o problem (well, only need to re-run xorgwizard). However, try as I might, I can't get to work: onboard soundcard is not detected.

Soundcard h/w is onboard nForce405 (should be detected as hda-intel) with ALC 883 hda-codec.

Manual modprobe seems to be fruitless. So I did my homework and search all over the place, seems that nForce 405 that my new mobo uses only works with ALSA 1.0.13 or newer. (I'm sure 1.0.13 works because I installed another distro that uses 1.0.13 and it works).

So - my earnest request.

I'm not sure how difficult though, since it involves kernel modules - does it need Barry's touch, or can it be done w/o kernel recompilation?

Thanks in advance.

(PS: Currently using 2.15CE. Downloaded 2.16 - seems that it comes with 1.0.8? Shocked which is older than 1.0.12rc1 in 2.15CE?)

Okay, I took the plunge and tried to do it the hard way (or, some will say, the Linux way).

0. Make sure I have the devx package (I can run gcc from terminal)
1. I downloaded ALSA 1.0.13 directly from the official ALSA project page.

2. Unzip the tarball --> tar -xjvf alsa-driver-1.0.13.tar.bz2
3. go inside the unzipped directory
4. run configure --> ./configure
5. run make --> make
6. install it --> make install
7. Then I just run alsaconf. Previously, alsaconf didn't detect my onboard soundcard. Now it detects !! (as snd-hda-intel).
8. Save the settings
9. Reboot
10. Run gxine and try to play some mp3
11. Success !!!!

Unfortunately, I have not the slightest idea on how to turn this into a dotpet - otherwise I could have helped someone.

Puppy version: 2.15CE

Creating dotpets is super simple. See the following link for comprehensive but straightforward instructions:
http://www.puppyos.com/development/createpet.htm

Hope that helps, and glad you got it solved. Well done!

@Barry:

Great news !! I just can't wait, though... Very Happy
Noted that info in the download readme.

@WhoDo

I never thought it was that simple to create dotpet Shocked
Thanks for the tip (and for Barry also of course, who made it simple for the rest of us to contribute !!).

Already PM-ed Mark for the upload. Hopefully it can be useful for others who face the same problem.

The microphone in the eeePC would not work with standard Puppy 2.13, so am now trying this PET. Thanks, jamesbond and tempestuous.
