For a toshiba satellite a75 s213 laptop running alsa finds sound card & it works but you must xrestart to get speaker icon on taskbar then unmute in puppy sound mixer. However when you reboot it looses its settings that it is suppose to save.
alsa chose snd-atiixp
This is what worked for me
/etc/rc.d/rc.local
edit rc.local
alsaconf
modprobe snd-atiixp
The only thing is that it will stop at rc.local , to get past this just hit
enter key 4 times & as it goes thru you will hear the puppy bark &
the icon speaker is enabled @ 75 on the taskbar.
Use at you own risk though.
Just so you all know I am rather new to puppy linux & there may be a better way but haven't found one yet.
I found this may be for other brand laptops, may be a laptop issue
audio will not set <solved> for laptop "a work around cure"
Problems and successes with specific brands/models of computer audio hardware
